My 1998 hitachi projector tv just randomly turns its self off and no matter how many times I push the power button it won't come on it does nothing no flash no noise no lights but after 15 to 20 mins...

The first thing possible is bad solder connections in the power supply or elsewhere.

Most of these sets with the back off have several green LED lights on the board and a red one.

The red one should be on all the time. What can be done is sit with back off and watch the Green ones--at the moment it shuts off does one go out first or last----each is tied to a voltage source in the set--it will point to where the problem is coming from---ancient self check feature that usually works well.

Another tactic you can use is if when it happens unplug it for a few minutes--I used to hook these to a wall switch so could kill power for a few minutes and try to turn back on--this would indicate a problem in the start up circuit in the power supply.

Tricks of the trade from working on lots of these sets---it would be easy to find if it just did not turn on at all.........

I have a rca d52w23 while i was watching tv in shut off and there was like a smoke smell I mean I turn it on and it shuts off by it self is it worth fixing it and what can cause this problem

Where there is smoke something burned--unplug set for safety and if curious open rear cover and look at boards near rear of set for a burnt part--that will usually determine if worth fixing or not.

Our Mitsubishi projection tv went out one day. When we went to turn it back on all it does is blink the green light for a few seconds and then shuts off. What could it be? Where can we look to see where...

MOST OF THESE SETS HAVE A SELF DIAGNOSTIC:

UNPLUG TV AND THEN PLUG BACK IN---TURN ON---GREEN POWER LIGHT COMES ONFOR A MOMENT AND GOES OFF.

PRESS AND HOLD "device"(input) and "menu"buttons on front of tv for at least 5 seconds and then release both together.

Watch for power light to blink in a sequence:

1 blink-then 2 blinks-------no error

2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray protection

2 blink-then 2 blink-------SHORT PROTECTION*******

2 blink-then 3 blink---------deflection circuit problem

2 blink-then 4 blink---------vertical circuit problem

******2, then 2 is most common---usually means one of the fuses that protectthe Convergence IC or IC's is blown---set will detect no voltage to convergenceIC and shut down.

SET WILL REPEAT BLINK ERROR CODE UP TO 5 TIMES ANDTHEN TO GET IT TO REPEAT MORE YOUHAVE TO UNPLUG SET AND TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN.

IF IT IS 2 AND THEN 2---USUALLY
CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT PROBLEM

let me know what you find--hope that you find 2 blinks, a pause and twoblinks--this is the most common and easiest to fix.

Lcd tv shuts down by its self

All you need to do is remove the back cover, then remove the metal cover that covered the power supply. Watch tv w/o cover, it won't shut down again. Try it and post here if it works.

Tv wont turn on

You probably have a bad flyback transformer (high voltage). You might want to get an estimate to find out if it is worth repairing. Stargazer
