Can't use my camera on windows live messenger

Please, try to update your msn and yahoo version:
1. check your messenger version (same procedure for each): click on help>in drop down menu click on "about ...">it shows the messenger version.
2. Go to official site of each your messengers and see if the version you've got is outdated.
3. If there is a latter version of messenger follow these steps:
---go to START button, click on Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall a Program>Windows Live Essentials and uninstall. Then go to the official site, download the latest version of Windows Live Essentials and install.
---For Yahoo Messenger follow the same procedure as above, but instead Windows Live Essentials choose Yahoo Messenger. Then go to official Yahoo download website, download the latest version of messenger and install it.
4. Restart your computer.
It should work now.
In case it does not work, follow the same procedure as above, but now choose your webcam and uninstall it. Then go to this link: http://download.cnet.com/Veo-Mobile-Advanced-Web-Camera/3000-18489_4-62939.html
and download the driver, install it, restart the computer. It should work now.

Use the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. Download here.

Install and open Messenger.
Go to Tools -> Audio and Video setup...
Click next and make sure your camera is selected!

Check your yahoo instant messenger preferences:
"Connect via a proxy server." then select "HTTP proxy".
After that take a look at your internet connection dropdown list, somemistakes can be found here.. instead of having the "broadband" connectionselected, the "dial-up" connection was chosen by Messenger by itself.

Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.
A. Skype Setup:
After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/) set it up as follows:

1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
2. Then click on the Video Settings.
3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.
B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://ca.messenger.yahoo.com/download/ ) set it up as follows:

1. Click on Messenger at the top left and then go down to Preferences and then the Preference Window will come up.
2. Next click on Calling and Devices. In the Calling & Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card or sound device installed in the computer.
3. Just below that, go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.
4. Then after completing the Audio Setup, go to down and click on Webcam it should BRODCSAST and you will see your picture.
5. To Chat, click on MESSENGER and then
6. After make necessary settings, click on APPLY, then OK.
7. Then click on MESSENGER and go to my WEBCAM ready to use.

2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.

This may work, if you don't mind going backwards a little bit. Lots of folks have had problems with version 9, from not working at all, to webcam problems, video problems, audio problems on and on. Google: Windows Live Messenger (Version 8.5). This is the best version they put out and versions after that lack some of the features found in 8.5.. I am not talking about "regular" Windows Messenger here, but rather Windows LIVE Messenger 8.5. Completely remove your old version and download and install the above version. It also has, in one of the tabs, a place where you can choose which camera you are using. I am currently running two differerent cameras, but I only use the one for Live Messenger. The other one uses a free program I found on the web which allows me to monitor my home when I am away. Getting back to your problem......make sure that you ONLY are downloading Windows Live Messenger v8.5 and no other. Some sites will automatically jump you to the latest version, and you don't want that. Try www.majorgeeks.com I think that's where I got mine but even that may direct you to Microsofts web site. First goto your add/remove programs in your control panel remove windows live messenger, then restart your computer now install the newest version of it and see if this helps fix the issue.
