SOME THEORY
The printer has a waste ink pad, which basically is a plastic container with felt in it. When the printer cleans the heads, either as commanded by you, or initially before printing, it spits out some ink into this pad. The printer remembers an approximate count of ink that has gone into the pad in a "protection counter", and signals when the counter reaches a predefined limit.
Of course, this pad has a limited capacity. Theoretically, you should take your printer to a service workshop for waste pad replacement and resetting of the counter - the printer is designed not to let the waste ink overflow and leak under the printer.
Of course the limit is set with a safety margin, for a worst-case scenario, when you "pour" ink constantly and it has no time to dry.
SOLUTION
If you want to be completely inline with manufacturer's specifications, and especially if the printer is still under warranty, you should contact EPSON service to do the right thing.
If however you want to live on the edge, you can download a special utility to reset the protection counter, replacing the felt or cleaning it yourself, or - if you are even more adventurous - without replacing the pad altogether, counting on the fact, that the waste ink dries out all the time and in practice the pad should accept twice as much as the producer assumed - but don't place your printer on that antique table or sofa afterwards...
If you want to give it a try, go to this webpage to download the software (
TIP: DON'T be tempted to change any other settings, as you may render your printer useless):

The small pad that goes where the cartridge carriage parks. Where the printhead sits on top of it. It is about 1/2" wide by 1" long.
I don't believe tissue paper will work for that.
Anyone know where to purchase one of these??
