SOURCE: How do I disable double-click on an HP Pavilion dv4 touchpad?
Hi there Dublin. I recently bought a HP laptop myself, and I believe I can help your situation, or at least I hope I can. Here's what you do: Access your Control Panel>Click Mouse>Click Device Settings>Click Settings> Click Tapping> Click Disable Tapping. That should do the trick. You are not disabling your touch-pad, just the double-clicking that is associated with it. Drove me nuts for about a day, 'til I figured it out..Hope it worked for your notebook.

Hold the power button down for a second or two to let the Netbook shut down, then restart. If you had a few windows open it may be frozen and need time to process info. Please give ample amount of time for it to log off. the more you fuss around with it the more it will stay frozen. If all fails hold the power button down until it powers off. I hope it's not your hard drive.

Hello,
TouchPad
is disabled sometimes for no apparent reasons. To reactivate, first
you restart your computer. If no change, you can activate it by going to
the mouse properties.
If you are using Windows XP in your computer, you can do the following:
1. Go to control panel>mouse>device settings
2. Click enable
3. Click Apply
4. Click OK
You can press FN+F7 in some laptops.
NOTE: If the troubleshooting above does not work. Click on reset devices>Apply>OK. Then restart the computer.
*****If your computer runs in Windows 7, then follow the following steps.
1. Go to control panel>hardware and devices>Devices and Printers>Mouse
2. CLick on the last setting on the right.
3. Make sure that the mouse in the list is enabled.
4. If disabled Click Enable device.
5. Click OK.

If the above troubleshooting does not make any changes. Update the driver of your touchpad. You can visit http://www.synaptics.com/
to get the drivers and software needed for your touchpad to work. Or,
you can go to the website of your computer's manufacturer because they have
the available updates and drivers which you can download and it will
surely fix the problem.
It could have been very helpful if you
provided fixya with the operating system and the model of your computer
enable for us to provide you with a detailed location of the driver of
your touchpad if there's a need for you to download it.
Thank you for using fixya. Just let me know if you need my help. Just leave a message in this post.
