Yes it is the same with this caveat.......... however there is a difference in purity levels, Auto 134a is manufactured is not as pure as refrigeration 134a, automotive a/c has an externally driven compressor whereas a refrigerator had=s an electric motor driven compressor which is hermetically sealed inside of the the shell, when moisture is present in a hermetic system it will cause acids to form which eventually causes leaks, deterioration of motor windings, eventually failure of the motor/compressor, this reaction does not occur in car a/c systems, that is why u can use the higher purity level 134a in cars but not car 134ea in refigerators without consequences

What freon goes in air condition?

This car originally contained R12, if you can find it you can use it. The other option if this has not already happened is you can convert the system from R12 to R134a, which is readily available, all auto part stores carry these kits. R12 AC fitting are threaded and R134a systems have slip on quick connect fittings.

1995 jeep grand cherokee laredo A/C

if the compressor kicks on then it may not need gas, you may have another problem, caution dont blow up can or system, if the can is connected to low side and the compressor is running then it should take the freon.

Hi, my name is David. I have a 03 GMC Yukon XL. The rear a/c just stopped working. no sound no air hot or cold, nothing. looking for an idea what it can be, Looking to possibly fix myself

Well, you should first check ALL, your vehicles fuse boxes and make sure they're in working order.

Assuming that your air conditioning compressor clutch is engaging and in working order.
and the the fuses are good. Then most likely, it is as simple as needing to fill it up with refrigerant...

If you dont have an autoparts store nearby, well even if you do. The R134a is cheaper at most stores such as Walmart, K-Mart, etc, etc...

As for cost, an 18oz cannister with a filling tube and gauge runs around 18.00 at most auto parts store... Instructions are on the can. including what the typical PSI level should read from a system in working order.

Good Luck and Happy Motoring

2004 Toyota Sienna and the AC is blowing warm air

Well, I would check to see if the compressor under the hood is engaging and the fan turns on to the radiator when switching the a/c on.

The most common problem for a car that is 6 years old is for r134a refrigerant to leak out through o-rings.

I would get an r134a recharge kit from your local auto parts store which consists of a tube and a can of freon with oil, leak detector, and sealant to help prevent leakage.

Hope you can get 'cool' air conditioning again.

Air is not very cold on a rv roof top ac what tools are needed in recharge

You should have the manual for this unit handy and as far as recharging tools go. You only need a can of R134a *(if the unit is R12 you need to buy upgrade adapters since R12 is no longer sold) Run the unit and put the R134a filler line on the low pressure side of the compressor *(from manual...dont guess as trying to charge the high pressure side is VERY dangerous). Get the charge just into the Green zone on your charger and that is it! Try not to fill too high in the green zone....I know it sounds funny...but AC's usually work better when they have the low end of their optimum fill. R134a doesnt work as well as R12 so be sure you buy the R134a with cooling enhancers. Your local Autozone can guide you to the right filler/product combination.

Good luck and be careful!

What kind of refridgerant do you use for the air conditioner

in 93 you could have R12 or R134a ... R12 is now illegal to use for most cars .. so you would have to have your system retrofitted so it can use R134a ... you can see what kind you have by looking under the hood .. there should be a plaque that tells what kind and how much the system holds .. the R134a systems have a special larger filler port and that is easily recognized by anyone familiar with auto air conditioning .. so just a look will tell them ... R134a is known for slow leaks .. its a small molicule so leaks easily .. the compressor will stop when the pressure gets down too low ..thats to prevent damage .. for now anyone can purchase r134a and many people add it themselves but the law specifies that only certified people can do work on air conditioners .. R12 and R134a are not compatable so you cant mix them .. no matter what the only refridgerrant you can use is R134a ..

Charge air conditioning

Your vehicle takes R134A and you can purchase at any auto parts store. Some refill kits come with stop leak or leak detection dye to aid in troubleshooting and finding small leaks in auto air conditioners. The kits come with a guage and hose connector to fill the circuit and instructions on how to do so.
