My TI-84 Plus won't let me graph trigonometric functions.

  • Anonymous May 18, 2019

Dont forget X inside sin, for example if the function was 1.5sin(3/2t) where t is time you might forget to replace t with X when graphing the function.

Is it somehow preventing you from graphing, or are you simply not getting the graph you expect?

Most likely you have the angular mode set wrong. You probably want it set to radians. Press MODE, move to the third line, highlight RADIAN, press ENTER, then 2ND [QUIT].

If it's not the angular mode, please reply to this post and give an example or two.

SOURCE: I used a "hook" program and connected the calculator to a motion detector. The graphing function was working fine before I used that program.

Press the 2nd button, then the plus button, the 7, then 1, then 2. This will reset your calculator.

SOURCE: graphing trig functions

Put the calculator in radian mode and it will graph trig functions just fine. If you don't know how to change it to radians, then go to mode and cursor over to select radians. I am assuming you know where the sine, cosine, tangent, etc. keys are.

SOURCE: I can't graph on my ti-84 plus silv. edition

More than likely, you've put in a number in the xmin or xmax that is not correct. Example....you put in an xmin of 10 and an xmax of -10 which would be backwards. This could also happen in the ymin or y max.

The easiest way to fix this is to press zoom 6 which wil get you back to the default graph of xmin of -10, xmax of 10 and ymin of -10 and y max of 10.

If you can't see your graph on this screen and need to change the window, just be sure the number in the min for both x & y is smaller than the number in the max. You change your window size by pressing the window button.

SOURCE: My TI-84 Plus won't graph two functions at once.

Hello,
Turn the satistical plots OFF
Press [2nd][Y=] (STATPLOT). Select or enter 4: to execute the command [PlotsOff] [ENTER]

Clear the lists (statistical lists)
Press [2nd][0] (Catalog]. Press [PGRM] C. The cursor jumps to the first command in catalog that starts with C (The greek letters in names do not matter). Scroll down a bit to reach the command [ClrAllLists]. Select it and press [ENTER].

Try your graphs again.
If you still have problems, just reset the RAM:
Press [2nd][+] (MEM). Press 7 to select [Reset] then [1:All Ram][2:Reset]. Press [Clear] to erase the Ram Cleard message.

Now you should be able to draw the graphs.

Hope it helps.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Domain error when I try to graph trigonometric functions

Possible: Inverse trigonometric functions have limited domains. For arcsine and arccosine it is between -1 and 1.

Sine graph is straight

If the angle unit is set to degrees and you use the standard window dimensions (Xmin=-10, Xmax=10) then all you will see is a straight line: Between 0 and 10 degrees, the sine is approximately equal to 0 and the cosine is about 1.

To see the features of the trigonometric functions you must do one of the following
  1. Set angle to degree but set window dimensions to span the domain -180 to 180 or larger.
  2. Set windows dimensions to the standard -10, 10 range but set angle degree to radians

How do i get inv on my TI-84 Plus caculator

To get the inverse trigonometric functions press the 2nd key then the trig function key. If you'll look at the key legends above the SIN, COS, and TAN keys you'll see the standard math notations for their inverse function.

I can not find the arc key or the INV key

The INV key that you may find on some scientific calculators has, on the TI 83/84/ Plus calculators, an equivalent key marked [2nd].

On the TI83/84 Plus, each trigonometric function has a second marking [SIN^-1], [COS^-1] or [TAN^-1]. To calculate the inverses of trigonometric functions ( arc sine, arc cosine, arc tangent) you press [2nd] followed by the relevant trigonometric function key For example, [2nd] [SIN] displays sin^-1( on the command line.

Unfortunately the hyperbolic functions and their inverses are only accessed through the CATALOG. You press [2nd][0] to open the CATALOG. Then you scroll down the CATALOG list to reach cosh(, cosh^-(, sinh(, sinh^-1(, tanh(, or tanh^-1(.
To speed the search in the catalog, you use the ALPHA keyboard: To reach cosh(, press[PRGM] and you scroll down from there.

How can I graph sine and cosine waves on my TI-84 Plus? I can see the Theta symbol on the "X,T, "Theta",n" button. But whenever I try to graph a function, it doesn't work. Please...

When you graph functions y=f(x), even if f(x) is a trigonometric function, the default independent variable is x. You will have to use the variable theta only when drawing polar functions.
To draw the sine and cosine or any other trigonometric function set the angle unit to radians and window zoom to standard. If your angle unit is degree you must modify the x-window range to, say, multiples of 180 degrees. Other than that there is nothing special to do. The functions are well-behaved and should graph nicely. You will alos get a better view if Ymin is about -1.2 and Ymax is about 1.2

I have a TI-84 Plus and it will not graph two functions at once and I need it to do this for my Calculus homework.

I've had this problem as well. The calculator has a program running on it that will not allow 2 (or more) functions to graph at once. To solve this:

1. Hit the "APPS" button.
2. Scroll down the list (close to the bottom) and find the application called "Transfrm". Press enter.
3. Highlight "Uninstall" and press enter.

Your calculator should now be able to graph as many functions as you would like!
Hope this helps!

Theres no lines on the graph, i put in inverse of sine 1/2 and it didnt graph

Change your mode (using the Mode button) from degrees to radians. You may also want to consider changing your window settings as you become more familiar with trigonometric functions.

I can't select more than one function to graph It only will let me select one function

In order to select additional graphs, the Transformation Graphing Application will need to be uninstalled from the TI-83 Plus Family and TI-84 Plus Family.
