Dell 720 prints faint

I've had this printer for 3 years, do all the regular maintenance, though today I changed both the black and color cartridge, and now it only prints faint...except when I print the test pages. I've tried printing in several programs, all different docs, but still have the problem. Can someone please help me?

Have you gone into printer properties when printing the item then click advanced check what the settings are on. Your default settings may be to print draft quality which produces faint picture because it uses dramatically less ink. If you need further assistance let me know. Also a brand new printer of higher quality can be purchased for around 30$. So repair is definitely not a viable option if it is not a setting problem.
Thank you,
lee

How do I install the printer cartrige? I do not have the booklet...

  1. Turn on your printer.

  2. Open the front cover.

The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

  1. Press the tabs on the cartridge lids, then lift the lids.

  1. Remove the old ink cartridges.

  1. Store the cartridges in an air-tight container or dispose of them properly.

  2. If you are installing new ink cartridges, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of each ink cartridge.

NOTE: You can use your printer with one cartridge (color or black) at a time. To extend the life of your color cartridge and improve printing speed, install both a color cartridge and a black cartridge at the same time.
  1. Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the color ink cartridge is secure in the left ink cartridge carrier and the black ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge carrier.

  1. Snap each lid closed.

  1. Close the front cover. The front cover must be closed to start a print job.

  1. Open the Dell Printer Solution Center by clicking Start® Programs or All Programs® Dell Printers® Dell Photo Printer 720® Dell Printer Solution Center.

  2. Click the Maintenance tab.

  3. Click Install a new print cartridge.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Select the type of cartridge you installed.

NOTE: Specify whether the cartridge is a new cartridge or an old cartridge (one that has been used before). If an old cartridge is incorrectly identified as New Cartridge in the Dell Printer Solution Center, ink levels may be incorrect.
  1. Click Next.

Color suddenly stopped printing. black is printing fine.

Hello,

Often ink printers will get clogged. This is especially the case if it sits idle for a while between uses, but can happen even with actively used printers. Try running the Dell printer's Head Cleaning Utility.
  • This is usually found by going to:
Start > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes
  • Rightclick on your printer's icon
  • Choose Properties off the new menu
  • Click Maintenance
  • From there you should see the controls for Printhead Cleaning.
You should see an improvement after about 2-3 cleaning runs. This does use ink, but may be your best bet to resolve the issue.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Dell 720 printer won't print

Our Dell AIO A940 stopped printing black ink. Tried so many things, and finally (a year later) got it to print by selecting:

PRINT, PROPERTIES, PAPER SETUP, SPECIALTY PAPER, PHOTO/GLOSSY

It's worth a try! Good luck!
