I have a Coby DVD-224 player. Al of a sudden, the remote control stopped working properly. On press of any key (including power/open/close), it shows "Random" message displayed on the screen. I tried changing batteries too but no success.
Pls. suggest what can be the cause and fix for it. Thanks!
I work for Coby technical support. Our customer service phone number is 1-800-727-3592.
It sounds like the remote needs to be replaced. Below is the procedure you would follow to obtain a replacement remote from COBY.
To obtain a replacement part from COBY, you must follow these instructions:
Please send:
1. A money order made out to COBY Electronics in the amount of $6.00 (FOR EACH PART ORDERED! -- TFDVD batteries cost $18.00)
2. A note with your full name, phone number, and return address.
3. A note detailing the model number of the device/unit and the part being requested.
4. If you're requesting a replacement remote please write the numbers found on the back of the remote on the note mentioned above.
We strongly suggest you either send the above requirements via certified mail OR with delivery confirmation which is available from the post office. And please hold on to your money order receipt/stub.
COBY will not make return shipments to a P.O. Box. For shipping to international addresses, actual freight will be charged. Please mail the above requirements to:
Customer Service
COBY Electronics Corp.
56-65 Rust Street
Maspeth, NY 11378
Failure to enclose the above requirements will result in a delay in the processing of your part request. Please allow 4 weeks for the processing of your request; allow 6 weeks during the November to February holiday season.
While this solution doesn't "fix" your problem, I hope that by giving you the facts, I've enabled you to make an informed decision as to what to do next.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Buy yourself a GE 94221 universal remote (Home depot $6) and use DVD code 0947 to control the Coby dvd 224.

I have a similar issue, but my son actually threw away the remote, thinking we could just buy a new one. Hence, I can't get any numbers off the back of it. The model is the DVD-224. Is that information alone enough to send with the six dollars to get a replacement?
dont plan on staying in business with this kind of support ridiculous
