Ok so my mom took my computer out of my room where i used to play online because the computer and the ethernet cord was closer to my ps3. now its in the den and the tv isnt close by the computer or internet modem. is there still a way i can get an internet connection on my ps3? like with a longer ethernet cord or what?
Yes, using a longer ethernet cord will work, but the PS3 has a bult-in WiFi card that can connect to any wireless router (you can buy a wireless router from a computer store like BestBuy).
If you are going to buy a wireless router, see if a wireless G-mimo or wireless N with signal boost is within your budget. Try looking through the network settings to see if you can connect through the wireless router.
Or just get a longer ethernet cord and run it directly to the PS3 from the router. Ethernet cords are the most reliable connection, granted you are on a good internet connection, they won't get interference from things like mobile phones, cordless phones, microwaves, TV's etc.
I have both the PS3 and Xbox 360 and the only thing I like better about the PS3 is the free online game play and Blue-Ray. Other than that, they're even. Good luck and have fun online! If you find me (wraith0127) say hi! Don't forget to rate. Thank you!
Yes, any of those stores will have pre-cut lengths of various sizes, some as long as 30ft. or more maybe available.
I had a thought, and after some internet searching, I found a great website that sells near custom lengths of Ethernet cables that are better than the original CAT5e Ethernet cables you find in wal*mart. They are CAT6 (faster speeds and higher bandwidth) and they're cheaper than at wal*mart. I'm not sure how to purchase because I have no need for new cables (yet) but I'm sure they could deliver them to you. They even accept paypal! (paypal is free and safer than a regular credit card but you can still use the same cards as before) Here's their website:

Check it out and let me know how things work with the new cable, if it helps you fix the problem. They also have cat 5e which is slightly cheaper but will work fine for online gaming. (that's the stuff they sell at wal*mart) Good luck and thanks for the awsome rating!

Turn off PS3 system..
1: Reset your
modem by unplugging it from the main power source.
2: After a few
minutes, plug modem power back into modem. Allow all connections to
configure
3: Turn on PS3 system.
4: Go to "Settings"
then scroll all the way down to "Network Settings"
5:
Make sure that the "internet connection" (the second menu)
is "Enabled"
6: Go to "Internet Connection
Settings" and choose the appropriate settings. (What's highlighted is going to be the best option, continue to hit the right button on the analog to go through the stages.)
Be sure to choose "Wireless" when configuring the settings if you are using wi fi for connectivity.
