The problem is the driver for the sata hard drive. You would need to get that from the dell site and put it on a floppy disk, then at the start of the windows install select to install that driver. I ended up just installing the rc version of windows 7 and it worked out fine.

My cousin's Desk top DELL OPTIPLEX GX280 wont boot they install Windows XP Professional SPK3 they always say Window could not start because the following file is missing or corrupted: <Windows...

Greetings I have the same computer which makes this a little easier I hope for understanding this process even on other computers it is all the same just different messages come up for each and everyone of them. Some go smooth and some just simply get complicated.
First you have to make sure that the disk you have of Windows XP Pro is legal and working it may be a bad disk. The install disk must be working properly. Also do to prior Windows installation which brought you to this point you will have to possibly use a formating program that does a complete erase of your hard drive. I use D/Ban Hardisk Eraser. Click Here
Once downloaded insert the disc into the CD or DVD drive on your computer and do a complete format it may take a while, then go ahead once that process is complete do another install making sure that you are booting from the DVD or CD Rom as your first boot device and the hard drive as the second boot option, under boot order options at the BIOS settings. Most likely this setting is probably already set to do this. If those two things are working the good Windows disk and a clean hard drive for a clean install. You should not have a problem installing the Windows Operating System software. Just follow the on screen directions.

DELL Inspiron disk failure how to recover OS in new hard disk?

Hello,

Unfortunately you will need the restore disk to correct this problem. Even if you copy the old disk to the new, chances are you will copy the corrupt files and have TWO bad copies of xp. You can order the restore disk from Dell on average about $30.

Good Luck

Universal xp pro key code

I'm sorry to say, but legally no one can give you a key to install XP. We have no way of verifying that bought a legitimate copy of Windows XP Professional, or if you just downloaded a pirated copy.

Sorry for not being able to help any further than this, but I hope you understand that we CAN'T help you with this request.

Unmountable boot volume or do I need another hard drive ?

Start machine press F8 repeatedly
If it lets you into Safe Mode then go to Programs, Accesories, System Tools, System Restore and try to roll the machine back a week or so
If that does not work you need to find a buddy with a copy of the software and reinstall providing your machine has the Windows sticker on the back or sides giving you the key code

Ntldr error on ibm intellistation z pro w/ xp pro

During the XP install, you will be given the chance to set up partitions on the drive. Blow them all out. Completely. Then recreate the partition and let XP install. I expect this will solve the nt loader issue. If, however, it does not, then use the recovery approach below to get the required loader files onto your boot partition.

  1. Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
  2. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
  3. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
  4. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
  5. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
  6. Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is "d." This letter may be different on your computer.

    copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\
    copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

  7. Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

30 day use Windows Xp Pro

The problem is with the actual key that you are using. Not your computer, or the components inside of it. If you are certain that you are using a valid key Its likely that you have a a key for windows home, and you are trying to install windows professional, or visa versa... Either way, If all else fails, you could replace the OS ( Buy or download) much easier than the hardware inside your computer.

Basically your computer is fine, just get a valid OS. If your adventurous try ubuntu.

Hope this helps!
