Hi K Smith.
Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help in identifying the issue.
- Start by doing a hard reboot, remove the battery and unplug its AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and see if it will boot up.
- If these will not work remove the HDD then boot it up and see if it will still get stuck at the BIOS screen or not.
- If it doesn't get stuck on BIOS and boot onto a black screen that means it's the HDD that is faulty.
- If it does get stuck on BIOS even without the HDD that means it's the motherboard that is faulty.
- Last trick you can try is to remove the CMOS battery for a second then put it back in.
- If all these will not work you'll need to send it for a repair if its still under the factory warranty
or.
1) Unplug the power cord --> Remove the battery --> Hold the power button for

60 seconds --> Connect the power supply then try to switch ON the laptop and

later put the battery back into the laptop.

2) If the problem still exists then get it checked out.

SOURCE: need to update bios toshiba satellite c660,using ubuntu live dvd, will not boot hard drive, all normal recovery options used up

Hi There,
There are currently no easy ways to update a bios through linux at all - including live cd's. Your best bet is to make a bios update USB stick (or floppy depending on the age of the computer)
Here's a link to those instructions:
http://www.biosflash.com/e/bios-boot-usb-stick.htm
Alternatively, speaking from my own experience with a similar situation, you can take the hard drive out, use it in place of the usb stick, boot from it, update your bios, and go from there.

Testimonial: "Matt, exactly what I have been searching for, I am well advanced in years so will take me a while to configure this, I found the update OK but was a problem choosing the utility. WELL DONE & MANY THANKS Jim"

Toshiba satellite c660 not starting up

Do you mean that it wont turn on at all or that it will not boot into Windows.

Try the following ...

Remove the battery and leave the power supply plugged in and try.

Borrow/buy a new/generic power supply see if thats the issue - no power

If you mean windows wont boot successfully you may need to find someone to reinstall Windows on your laptop from the recovery disks/partition

How do I replace the keyboard?

next to the F1 key and the windows key (2nd upper key and second to last key) are two screws, usually under some covering. unscrew and lift top edge of the keyboard towards the trackpad to lay face down. Undo the wire ribbon by lifting the grey or brown tabs and remove ribbon and keyboard. Then install the new keyboard by inserting the ribbon on the place. Lock down with the tabs and put the plastic prongs (close to the space bar) into the laptop body first, and then close keyboard onto the final position. screw back in and thats all.
