Here is how you fix this problem: Hold both the power button AND the volume UP button down at the same time for about 5-10 seconds it should restart. You don't lose any info doing this.
I had the same thing, was browsing eBay and it froze. I couldn't turn it off. Holding the power button for 15 seconds did nothing. I left it overnight and it was still the same this morning. It ran out of power and am now recharging and seems to be ok so far.

More than likely holding down the power button until it powers down will do the trick. If not it will eventually drain itself to the point of powering off, then simply feed it power and power it back up.

Hold the power button down for up to 15 seconds. This should hard reset it. Not to be confused with erasing data.
