Is the Boss Dr-5 compatable with the Boss BR-1180 mini studio?

I have The Boss Dr-5 (Dr. Rhythm) Drum machine and my friend has the Boss BR-1180 CD recording device. I recently brought it over to his house to see if I could just plug it into the midi input and fire away but no such luck. Is there some way to make my drum patterns on the dr-5 play on the br-1180?

The beats you have programmed into the drum machine will not play through the midi cable. In order to do what you want you need to connect the audio output from the drum machine to the audio input of the br-1180. What you should then do is connect the MIDI out of the the br1180 to the midi in of the Dr5. This will allow you to start and stop the drum machine with the play button on the br1180. MIDI can be a complicated thing so be sure to RTFM about MIDI for both of your BOSS devices to understand what they can do to work together. Good Luck

Midi doesn't actually "make sound". If your trying to record the patterns you made on the DR-5 to the recorder you need to use an audio output(I don't remember if they are RCA or 1/4" on the DR-5.) The midi output would be used to"trigger sounds" in another device that has sounds built in, or you could also trigger sounds in a program that supports midi input.

The record button on my DR-670 Dr. Rhythm drum machine no longer works, it has benn sitting for quite a while . It has been well protected in it's original packaging. Any help would be appreciated

YOu can disassemble the machine and clean the switch and resolver the connections to the circuit board, but it would be easier to call Roland and get the info for the nearest service center in your area.

My Boss BR-1180 was working fine but said NO CD DRIVE so I replaced the cd drive and as soon as I did I turned it on it reads BOSS BR11-80 and the HD ACCESS light stays lit but nothing else happens. Did I...

hdd should not be damaged, if your hd and cd are on same ide cable it might be taking the cd as master and not the hd, ensure the jumper on the back of the new cd drive is set in the same position as the old one was, as test remove cd and boot system, hd should act again as usual. this will show that there is a ide conflict.

my assumption is that your cd jumper should be set to slave or cable select position.
you may have to try each until you find the position that works.

I hope this was useful.

regards Martin.

No CD writer for Boss BR-1180

Hey mike yeah you can hook a regular cdr drive to the ribbon but the problem is if its not a slim it most likely wont fit inside the unit. Also the built in c.d r is way over rated mine has it and I still bounce it all onto my computer and then burn it from there. The one on the br-1180cd burns very quiet.
