My 4 year old Whirlpool Ultimate Care washer was in the middle of the wash cycle, getting ready to rinse or spin and just died. My fiance went outside to check the breaker. When he came back in, we turned the washer on and tried to put it on the spin cycle. I heard the motor making a whining/grinding noise. The machine would not agitate or drain. We tried the washer on a few other cycles and nothing happened. Now the washer won't do anything at all! Any idea what's causing this?

Sounds like the belt broke and probably need replacing or the motor is shot.

My washer was in the middle of the wash when the power went out. i restarted it but it won't do anything except wash, it won't rinse, spin or drain.

if its not doing such in all cycles then i would look at a fault with the water pump have a look at some of my past comments regarding this fault

Whirlpool washer stops in the middle of cycle does not rinse and

If your washer stops at the same time each wash, you have a dead spot in your timer. It will need to be replaced. .

Will not spin on any rinse cycle

Hi, This washer does not have a belt. While the washer is agitating, if you lift the lid will it stop? Some models will agitate but not spin if the lid is up. It sounds to me like the lid switch might be going bad.
If you will get me a model #, I can look this up for you and give you a better idea.

Stops in the middle of wash cycle

Hi!

If the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:
It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.
It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.
