Yes bulbs dont smell unless they pop plus its 3 bulbs in there, plus the tv would still have power/standby lights, and it's not that type of smell, replace the bulb but im sure this will not fix the problem, also my experience with dlp set it is often not worth repair, good luck you need more help or question just ask good luck

Hello, please check how many times the red light flashes. If it is 3 times this means that the lamp cover is not fastened securely. If the red light flashes 5 times this means that the lamp driver is defect. If you need more help please advice

It sounds like the lamp has failed. It is advisable to use a genuine Sony lamp. The part number for is XL-5200. It will cost around 180.00. That should fix you problem. If you cannot find the lamp local to you can order it form Sony at.

You may have a bad ballast. Check to see if your lamp is lighting up through the back of your T.V. prior to the picture coming on. If it has done this since you bought it, it's probably the just the way the T.V. was designed. If it still comes on every time, it could also be a power supply issue, but nothing to stress about.

SAFE MODE:
1.
Place you
finger on the on/off sensor leave it their until you console turns off then
take you finger off the sensor.
2.
Place your finger back on the on/off sensor
leave it their until you hear 2 consecutive beeps then take your finger off.
3.
Once the safe mode screen comes on select the
option PS3 SYSTEM RESTORE.
NOTE: A PS3 system restore will delete all
data except the OS. I recommend backing
up your console onto a USB flash drive if possible.
