I have plugged in the hard drive to my Apple Mac and I want to move a file into storage. It just won't go. The hard drive isn't accepting the folder even when there is 499GB storage remaining!

Hi,
Try doing flea power & the power cycle.
1. Disconnect all the peripherals like keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner & monitor and power supply from the CPU.
And press & hold the power button for 2 min, it will release the flea power from the mother board.
Restart the system & check.
2. Disconnect everything.wait for 5-10 minutes and then connect every thing.
Restart the system.
If it does not resolve the issue then you can try this :
Check this before you try to edit the registry values.
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/profiles.1.html
Just remove the registry key it happen when this key is corrupted.
HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR
And delete all references to the external hard drive.
And also HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB
and found the keys associated with the USB to IDE value.
After restarting the system, the drive shold be detected & configured automatically by the computer.

Format your hardrive for Mac OS:
Go to Disk Utilities under the go menu in your finder. Select the external drive and click on the erase tab. Clikc erase again and it formats the drive. You can now copy files onto the drive.

It depends on how you formatted the the drive.
If it was formatted FAT it will work on both Mac and PC.
If you formatted to HFS+ (the native mac format) then it will only work on a mac.

SOURCE: Hi, I have an iomega
Connect it to your Mac and open Disk Utility. Find the disk in the left pane of the Disk Utility window, click on it, then click the Erase tab in the right pane. Choose your format, then click the Erase button. If the disk does not appear in the left pane or is grayed out, click the Erase or Partition tab first, then select the disk.
Note: the "MS-DOS" format is the FAT-32 filing system. You will have to partition the volume (Partition tab) to use it since FAT-32 cannot cover the entire drive in one partition (I think it is limited to 80 GB). Microsoft won't let Apple use an NTFS volume for Write operations, but FAT-32 can be read and written by both Mac and Windows systems. If you think you may want to use the drive to share files with the PC, make two partitions - one formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and a smaller one formatted as FAT-32.
