SOURCE: Carver C11 preamp problem

I found out through the Carver Audio forums that metal shavings inside the case are an issue with this unit. So I used an achohol based spray and cleaned the switchs and the circuit board, (there was a fair amount of shavings found). It has been running for 14 hours with no problems.

if it is not working then there is another serious problem , and it could be the amp IC or the volume IC but tests will need to be done to determine what is causing the failure , but it does sound like amp IC as a suspect since the rear were not even working , did the volume seem different when turning it up or down before the center quit or after the center quit?

You don't. Unless you open it up and put in a switch. These lights are part of the look.

Hi There, I have a Marantz SR7005 Receiver and Bose 901 Series VI speakers with the Bose equalizer. I'm struggling to figure out the best way to connect the Bose equalizer/speakers to the SR7005. ...

It sounds like you've read one of my many posts on 901 deployment in the AV world.

Functionally, what is the difference between one amp with 'x' channels or 'x' mono amps? Nothing. Pre-outs don't know or care what else an external amp does.

According to this link http://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/products/new/642968.html those amps are 2- and 5-channel, respectively.

There was a time when I had two bridged-mono Carver Cube atmps (at a real 400 watts) pushing one 901 each but that was big time overkill.

I now use a Carver AV-406 (functionally the same as your MM7055) with the 901 EQ in between the AV Receiver's front pre-outs and two 110-watt channels. Other channels on the AV-406 pull subwoofer and surround back duties. My AVR directly powers only the center and surround speakers.

The MM7025 would work for you.

My turntable connect to Carver Preamp, I bought a

If you can hear music with the volume up, but like it was turned down low (from the power amp), then yes there is something up with it. If it's the same on both left & right channels, then it's something common to both. For instance the power supply, or an IC that has both channels going in it.
If however the power amp does produce sound normally with another device, then either the turntable has a fault, or the pre-amp has, perhaps on the pre-amp inside it for the cartridge.

Carver CT-28v Tuner preamp - Has a hum/buzz (soundls like a ground loop) that is heard as soon as the unit is turned on. Does not increase with volume, just stays the same and is continuous. Changing...

Reverse the polarity of the AC plug and try it. Is there a headphone jack on the preamp? Try headphones with the preamp standalone without the amp attached.

Are you sure the preamp is the problem? I assume you also have an amp or you wouldn't hear anything. Power up the amp with nothing but speakers attached. Hum??? It's in the amp. No Hum? Attach just the preamp with no external components. Hum now? It's the CT-28. Turn it off an exercise every switch and knob throughout its range numerous times. Try again. Still humming? Manipulate source selections, Tape Monitor, everything.

I have a carver M 1.5 amp rt. channel is out.

Carver designs in general are not easy to repair. I would recommend that you send this unit into a Carver authorized service center. The likely problem is the output transistors, but the driver circuits and predrivers are not simple designs and if there is a problem there, it could effect the outputs. Tracing this will require equipment and schematics that I don't believe are available on the net.
