Question about Fisher Paykel EcoSmart GWL15

1 Answer

Splashing water during spin cycle

Water splashes out from under the lid of my machine during the spin cycle while washing large loads. I've read some postings suggesting the water level may be too high however this particular machine is supposed ot adjust the water level automatically and this has never been an issue previously. Any idea why this has suddenly become a problem?

The lid switch is bad on your washer. Either replace it or bypass it.

SOURCE: Washing machine wont spin the water out.

IT IS VERY POSSIBLE THAT YOU HAVE A BAD OUT OF BALANCE SWITCH. THE MACHINE WILL NOT GO INTO A HIGH SPEED SPIN IF THE SWITCH IS BAD.

SOURCE: water splashes out of lid in the front of machine

I am not a repair professional. I am just a 78 year old
man who has been making his own repairs for about
50 years. Therefore the washer or dryer ID doesn't
mean much to me. I came to fixya looking for a
schematic for an really old AM/FM radio and
discovered that more than 4,700 people were asking
for help with a washer repair. I recently had a washer
repair of my own and found an excellent video which
showed me how to take my machine apart. This
video made it possible for me to do my own repair. I
was so impressed with the video that when I saw all
these people needing help, I wanted to tell them
about it. If you have a top loader (washer) of the
direct drive type, this video might be a Godsend for
you. If you look at the back of your washer and the
panel is solid (no small inspection plate to remove)
chances are you have a direct drive and this video
is just what you need. You can see this video at
www.acmehowto.com You will probably need
more help in determining what the problem is and
how to fix it. If your repair problem is a washer or
dryer I suggest you go to www.applianceaid.com
where they have very good trouble shooting and
repair information on most washers and dryers.
I think you'll find what you need there. Don't worry
about the timer, they hardly ever go bad. Good
luck with it. If I have helped you, please rate my
advice on fixya.

Sounds like the lid lock has gone bad. Check the wire connections to it and if you should need to order the lock, here is their website.

Water collecting under the machine during a wash which is not due to a leak

I had one that would spin water over the top of the drum during the wash cycle once, even with low water level. There are actually brake shoes/pads that add resistance, so the agitate won't over spin before it changes direction. I don't remember them being too difficult to install.

Is water supposed to enter the tub during the first half of the final spin cycle (not rinse cycle)?

no spin cycle don't have water it could be the pump is not getting the water out fast enough, could be clogged or the rear drain pipe is blocked or bent. failing them to problems it could be the valve its self.

During the rinse and spin cycle, water is sprayed everwhere

There may be too much water and not enough clothes in the washer. If that is the case the water rises up the side of the tub when spinning and overflows the inner tub. Usually it goes into the outer tub but it can spurt out through bleach dispenser and run down the inside of the cabinet or hit the lid and splash out. Set water level (Xsmall, small, medium, large, Xlarge) appropriate for amount of clothes.

Splashing

Most top loaders are not water tight. They are splash resistant. I'm guessing that your water level is too high or you are loading your clothing into a machine that is already full of water raising the water level excessively.

If you allow your machine to fill with no clothes for test purposes, you should see a level about 3 inches below the top of the agitator. If it is higher than that, I suggest that you investigate why or use a lower water setting.

If you are you using a liquid soap or packets that will be the main problem. If your unit fills with water circulates the water and drains the water, and also heaters are working then you probally need to change to cascade powder soap. The film on the dishes is soap. The unit has so much build up in it that when it gets to the rinse cycle it is rinsing dishes with soapy water. You need to get 2 medium bowls fill both 2/3 up with white vinager, place one in upper rack and one in lower rack and run unit on longest cycle letting the vinager splash out during wash.do this with no soap and no dishes.Having soft water will allow you to use less soap.
