Vizio 42" LCD. Flat screen. Won't display CC on setup screen using HDMI input. Have a Sharp tv on another Directv box and it shows CC via HDMI connection. Problem with receiver or with TV? Costco's "Help" folks tried but want to blame Directv box. Before I try to deal with Directv I'd like a "second opinion". Thank you

CC is a feature of the TV. All TVs are different in features and the Vizio is limited on its features due to cost. To eliminate the directv receiver connected to Vizio TV just swap with the receiver connected to Sharp TV and see if CC is displayed.

If your Tv has this many HDMI ports it will have a menu to access each one separate. Go to your Tv's settings menu and look for your HDMI ports to use.

Tv won't switch to "tv"

Your T.V. is programmed to store the last input you've selected. You have to manually switch it back to your T.V. channel input after each time you switch it to HDMI or any other input even when you turn it off. The "Source" or "Input" button on your original T.V. remote will change this.

I'm house and pet sitting at a friends' house who have a large screen Vizio TV and DirecTV. Right now, the TV is set on HDMI, but there's a floating message on a black screen: ''No Signal!'' This...

You need to make sure that is has enough signal, if you have poor signal, you will get pixels(as oppesed to snowy picture on CRT televisions) make sure all plugs are plugged in correct, and try diff inputs from DirecTV to the Tv to ensure its not the HDMI input thats faulty. Good Luck.

Sharp 37" LCD/TV will not remain programmed with DirectV. DirectV technicians have come out to re-program the Sharp TV. They simply say over and over again that it is a Sharp problem. They keep telling me...

First of all any make or model tv will work with any directv receiver as long as it is connected properly. In my expierence Sharp TVs are compatible with all directv recievers. Is the directv remote not functionly properly with your sharp tv or do you have a black or snowy display. Your tv has to be on correct input in which the technician should of educated you on this instead of suggesting the purchase of a sony branded tv. Black or snowy display indicates the wrong input. Using the tv remote find a button labeled source or av or input and try pressing that button until you see a picture. otherwise call directv tech support at 800-347-3288 and demand that this issue is resolved immediately.

Close captioning on HDMI

The TV will not display closed caption with HDMI input. It must either over-the-air (antenna) or composite input for the TV to manage CC.

To get CC with HDMI from your Comcast DVR, you need to configure the cable box. Instructions can be found here:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use_a_Motorola_DVR/Setup

If you want CC all of the time, this works well. But since you must power-off the cable box to change the setting, switching CC on and off is a real pain.

Your set-up is similar to mine (Sharp Aquos 46" and Comcast DVR). I have the composite output from the cable box going to a DVD-recorder and on to the TV. Whenever I need CC (usually to catch some mumbled dialog), I just rewind the DVR, and switch the TV input to the composite input. Then I switch back to HDMI to continue watching in HD.
