I took apart the dyson and found my belt was broken. I look on dyson's site for a part, but couldn't find one. They want me to buy the whole cleaner head assembly. The part number on the belt read
"20724-01-01" I have been looking online for it without any luck, I'm hoping someone here can help. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your power head is seized or almost seized. Possibly real dirty. take apart and lubricate ends and replace the belt I feel is slipping Hence the squealing.. Clean all parts thoroughly.
Ouch The video below shows how to to remove the brush head and how to clean it. I almost think that Dyson didn't ever expect this belt to break. The rest of the disassembly to get to the brush seems to be done by removing torx screws, I have not been able to find a replacement from dyson. A google search shows several sites that sell a replacement belt. Dyson DC41 DC43 Resetting the brush bar Official Dyson video

DC41's lower cable winder is attached to the hose assembly, and if the cable winder has broken you would need a replacement hose assembly. It's likely your DC41 would still be within our 5-year guarantee period, so it would be worth contacting us directly so we can order this for you.

If you are indicating that it works, but will not stay in an upright position, then the problem is likely a plastic part has broken.
Since the machine is nearly all plastic, it will break rather easily, and may not be repairable.
You might try to look up the Dyson company on your computer and see if they have a phone number to talk to them, but if it is made in China, there may be no spare parts available.
God bless your efforts.
Belt was broken, so I had to go inside the motor assembly -- torx screws all the way. The problem is finding a replacement belt without buying a whole new power drive.
If you cant easily see how to replace the Belt then I think your Dc07 has A clutch unit.
This type of Dc07 has 2 belts one from motor to clutch & the second belt goes clutch to brush roller.
You will need to remove the clutch unit completey from the machine in order to replace the belts, Its alot to explain so try this site it has service manuals covering this. http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/
I have the same problem... did you find a solution?
