Pull out the spark plug and plug it into the spark plug lead. Connect a jumper wire between a cooling fin and the threaded part of the spark plug. Pull the starter cord and watch for the spark to jump the gap. It should be bright blue. Do this in dim light. If you see no spark you have an ignition problem.

Funny, that’s not how I learned. I recall being to to hold the screw driver and look for a spark lol

Not to sure without seeing or hearing it being pulled over. Compression? Very likely needs some carb work/kit.

Leave blower and vac

I don't mean to over simplify this, but are you using fresh gas? Gas blowers and string trimmers are extremely ticky when it comes to gas. They like it SUPER fresh. Not just fresh from the can, but fresh from the pump! And while the gas and oil mixture should be right, it can be off a little bit and still run. Try draining all of the gas out, and then filling up with fresh mix. This is ALWAYS my first step with string trimmers and blowers, and it fixes the problem 75% of the time. Also make sure your spark plug is clean. If you are not sure, a new plug couldn't hurt.
Hope this helps!!
