Heart rate display is not showing correctly - it's too high

I went for a run on the treadmill today. The heart rate monitor was off from the start. It showed my bpm was 156 and I just started walking - should have been in the 90 range. At one point it got up to 200bpm - I wasn't breathing heavy and I know it was off. How do i fix this?

It is easy to check your heart rate. Place your index finger on your carotid artery on your neck. count the pulse for the seconds. multiply by 6 for beats per minute. If it does not match your monitor contact customer service for repair. If it does match your monitor call your cardiologist.

SOURCE: Garmin Forerunner 50 Train Display Settings

I was having the same problem and came across your post - I figured out how to change the secondary display.  While in Train mode, with your foot pod activated, hold the View button.  The secondary display will change and say "CAD" or "PACE"...keep doing this until you get to the right display.  Hope this helps!

SOURCE: heart rate zones

Heart rates are known by the garmin software as zones, numeroted 1 up to 9.
You can set on the software your heart rate, based on :
- HR max ;
- intermediate HR, linked to the zones.
Then, when you upload a session in the software, you will analyze the zones you ran in.

Another tip : to set on the Garmin itself, the Zones to ON,then Z0 to ON, and Z0 HRM to ON : here you can indicate your HRM low (ex : 165 for me) and the HRM High (185 for example). Then during your session, an up or down arrow will appear, indicate if you run below your HRM low (aerobic zone), your anaerobic zone (betwin HRM Low and High) or in VO2 max.

Hoping that's clear and that can help you.

It appears my F6 monitor is not keeping accurant time on calories and heart rate. I like the watch but while checking my sitting heart rate is very low. When checking the heart rate on a blood pressure...

First you need to understand that the Polar system is a medical grade device and it is calculating calories based on specific information that you have inputed and heart rate data from your heart.

Most treadmills and other exercise machines use a much simpler counter that is height and weight based to calculate calories and are generally over generous with their numbers.

Depending on the blood pressure machine you are using, the pulse (not heart rate) is coming through the brachial artery, again not quite as accurate as measuring r-r variance from your heart. There is a ton of literature you can read if you are into the accurateness of the system, but I will sum up with saying that you actual calorie expenditure will be closer on the Polar than on most other devices outside of a hospital. As too the heart rate this is also true, so more likely you are getting inaccurate numbers from the other devices.

If you want pinpoint accuracy then you will need to use the Polar RS800 or S810 devices that measure and display true R-R.

Changed the battery and now it won't pick up the heart rate monitor. I know the monitor works because it is picked up by all the equipment in the gym.

If Heart Rate is being displayed on the equipment in the gym, but not your watch, then your chest strap is transmitting fine, but the watch is not recieving the signal.

It is not uncommon that when a battery is changed outside of a polar authorized service center that something can happen to the internal electronics. I would suggest you send the watch into Polar and have them take a look. if you have had the watch less than 2 years they will most likely take it under warranty and correct the issue, at the very least they have equipment to test and diagnose both the watch and strap, although it sounds like your HR strap is fine since you are getting HR on the machines.

How do I set the High hr and the low hr by the chart?

Hi,

To change any of the settings, press 'set' until 'settings' is displayed, press 'ok', now you can either set the heart rate manually in 'limit set' (press 'ok' to change the settings and press 'set' to change)
or input your personal data to let it choose heart rate settings itself in 'user set' where you input weight, height, age and *** (sadly yes please is not one of the options ;¬) )

if you go to www.polar.fi the user manual is on there if you need more clarification.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Polar F4 monitor is reading about 30bpm less than actual

Check that the case back is on the right way. A spring sticking out of the watch mech needs to line up with a hole in the white sticker on the inside of the case back, I think this is the receiver aerial.

Inaccurate Measurements of heart rate

Replace the battery. Then make sure that it is placed on the proper artery that it is supposed to be on. If your heart rate was 210 you would be in the hospital with a heart attack. And also the only person I know with a heart rate of 90 when running is Lance Armstrong. Your heart rate should be about 120 to 135 and it will just around in those areas but should never go higher
