Boot sequence for emachine M6811

As SOON as you press the Power On button, start tapping on the DELete key.
Tap in 2 second intervals.

You may hear beeps. This is a Stuck Key Error Beep. (Or beeps)
Ignore the beeps.

You will now be in the BIOS Setup utility.

The BIOS program is made by Phoenix.
It is Version NSF03.P0
Release date - 07/28/2004

http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2170#specs

Scroll the page down a little, until you come to the bold heading -
EMachines Desktop Replacement Notebook Specs

Scroll down until you see the sub-heading - Detailed specs
Left-click on - Click here to See appendix for detailed specs
Now look under the bold heading - DMI, and [ BIOS ]

When you are in the BIOS Setup utility, you CANNOT use your mouse
anymore. You have to use your Keyboard.

At the top of the BIOS Setup utility you will see headings;
Main, Advanced, Security, Power, Boot, and Exit.

The BIOS Setup utility automatically opens to the Main screen.

Use the Right Arrow key, and stop on the - Boot - tab

What is listed is a Boot Order.
In the list of the Boot Order are Boot Devices.

What is at the TOP is the first boot device the laptop will boot from.

Should be;
1) CD-ROM Drive
2) Removable Devices
3) Hard Drive
4) Network

Having CD-ROM Drive at the top allows you to install a different Operating System, that the laptop did not have from the factory.

ALSO; Windows DOES NOT like to be written over, with a lesser operating system, or the SAME version of operating system.

Examples;
Trying to install Windows 98SE, on a Windows computer that has Windows XP on it.

Trying to install Windows XP, on a Windows computer that has Windows XP already on it.

Using CD-ROM Drive as the first boot device, will allow you to install what you wish.

[ Doesn't work for installing Windows XP over Windows Vista. There is a special procedure ]

Restored Emachine T3516 computer to factory settings and now the computer says the ntldr is compressed

This should solve your problem:

1. Start the Recovery Console. If you do not have the Recovery Console installed, start it from the Windows XP compact disc (CD). To do this, follow these steps:

a. Insert the Windows XP CD and restart the computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD.

b. When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts; choose the repair or recover option by pressing R.

c. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the recovery console.

d. When prompted, type the Administrator password.

2. At the command prompt, type "cd \" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.

3. Type "ren ntldr ntldr.old" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.

4. Type "map" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.

5. Note the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD. It is displayed in a format similar to the following: D: \Device\CdRom0

6. Type "expand <drive>\i386\ntldr._" (without the quotation marks) (where <drive> is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD), and then press ENTER. For example:

Expand d:\i386\ntldr._ <ENTER>

Note the underscore character after the "."

The following message appears: ntldr, 1 file(s) expanded.

7. Type "exit" (without the quotation marks). The computer restarts.

8. Remove the Windows XP CD and start the computer normally.

IF that fails put in your Windows installation CD and reinstall the operating system

Emachines 180 desktop reinstalling windows xp

Your trying to reinstall Windows XP from cd on your emahcine computer and from what I understand part of the way through the installation of XP you recieve a blue screen? Am I correct?
If so then their can be a couple of things wrong here.
One your cd drive is not reading the cd correctly try cleaning the lense on your cd drive or change the drive and use a different drive. Second your Windows XP cd is bad, screatched or smudged. Try cleaning your cd or make a copy of it on a friends machine and use the new one. If you tried all of these and you are still getting the blue screen repost for more help.

Thanks

Installation windows xp emachine t5082

You must find "eMachine" XP USB drivers for your computer.
If all USB support is "enabled" in BIOS, the conflict is with drivers.
XP is loaded with many generic drivers, however eMachines is proprietary and requires eMachine drivers for most on-board hardware.

Contact eMachines support to locate the drivers (if available).

Cd drive/ USB/ reinstall XP

Nifty little IDE to laptop ide adapters on ebay for under $10 delivered..
remove laptop HD.. use adapter, plug into desktop as second drive.
Load up XP install to a folder.. use a decent file copier so you get hidden files. try filesync 2.xx (look for it),
Back into the laptop, try it..

Only other thing would be LEGACY USB SUPPORT in the bios and an external usb drive... Hopefully your usb problem is XP related and not hardware related..
