The gas fireplace was brand new in 2006, used only a few times and then turned off completely and never used again for at least 2 years. Now I'm trying to use it. The pilot light is on, but I couldn't get it to burn/light up. What could be the problem?
Thanks!
Check for how clean the bottom of the unit is. I know it seems small but when dealing with these amounts of electric current they are just that "small" and the dust can be shorting out the unit and not allowing the gas valve to release the gas. Its a safety thing, they dont want gas around an electrical short "go figure" lol

Thank you for your quick reply. I did turn the knob to the "on" position and even adjusted the dial to "high". It didn't work. Then again, I haven't used it for at least 2 years. You think I should get it serviced then, or is there anything else I should do at this point?
After you re-lit the pilot, did you turn that control knob to the "on" position (fully counter clockwise)? That is the most common oversight I encounter when I go on repair jobs. If you did and it's still not working, there could be a blockage in the main burner feed which is preventing the flow of gas between the burner and the control valve. Another possibility is a bad thermopile.
I was having the same problem and richiestar's suggestion worked for me.
I had the same problem too. It worked for me as well. Thanks Richiestar
