I have to unplug set to get it to turn off once on no buttons work

The main board has failed. Replace the main board will fix the problem.
By the way, where did you buy the TV? If you have bought it from Costco then try to give them a call to see if it still under warranty.

If this is indeed an LCD and not a plasma, then you need to replace the LVDS (LCD controller) board.

Unfortunately, what you're describing is a repair
issue. You won't be able to address the problem with troubleshooting.
There is a part inside the TV that needs to be replaced. If you're
under warranty, this will cost you nothing. If you're not under
warranty the cost will likely be a minimum of $200 parts and labor.
However, be warned that the cost could be considerably higher.

My TV did the same thing. You need a new power supply. Fairly simple to do yourself. The card is about a hundred bucks with shipping. The part number is 0500-0507-0250. You just have to take the back of the TV off (about a hundred screws). Just unplug the old one and plug the new one in.
