SOURCE: Not able to scan to pdf file with Brother MFC-240C

What you seem to want to do is not possible. Let me explain:
A file that has its data in the Adobe company Portable Document Format (or a pdf file) contains various objects that are described to the computer using a superset of the PostScript language, some of them can be images.

A file that comes from the scanner is first a very organized set of pixels and gets put into a more compact form by using a well known process as defined by the Joint Motion Picture Experts group. This is a roundabout way of saying that it has a format that isn't PDF.

What you CAN do:
a) open the jpeg file with a Macintosh, using the Print command from the file menu make a pdf file that has the image in it.

b) buy and install a PDF printer driver on a Windows machine, and then follow the same process as A above.

c) Use your favorite PDF creation program to make a file with the image embedded.

After much time with Brother Tech support. The solution finally turned out to be as simple as downloading this file to reset the drivers.

How do I use my Scan feature and send the image by e-mail?

If your drivers are instaled correctly, the BROTHER Control Center working fine, and you have setup a mail account in say OUTLOOK or another e-mail software, you can scan to e-mail.
Put the document on the flatbed or the ADF, open the Control Center. Select the Scan function, and the Scan to email option.
The document will be scanned, the e-nail software will open, inviting you to enter the email address. that is all it takes.

Hi i own one of your printers and i have a problem, i cant scan some copies of my resume to my email box and send it to a company, i just cant scan these copies to my email, which after i have to send...

When you scan a doc to email, it will open either outlook express/Windows live mail or outlook and use that to send your email. If you have not configured either of these programs on your pc then it cannot send anything. the way around this is to scan the docs into your say My Documents/Documents folder and then attach them to your email as attchments.

Try this:

2. Click START -> RUN or in the START SEARCH LINE:

6. Click START -> RUN or in the START SEARCH LINE:
7. Type in C:\PROGRAM FILES\BROTHER\CONTROLCENTER3\

I am trying to figure out how to use my Brother MFC-8440 scanner. I would like to use it to scan documents to email out. When I go to Brother.com and look at the direction book, it doesn't have directions...

It is part of the Network User's Guide (section 10) and the Software User's Guide (section 3 for a PC using Windows, Section 8 for network scanning), not the User's Guide. The directions below are for XP and Win2K primarily. Slight changes may exist with other OS versions. (Full software is not available for Win7 so the buttons on the unit will not work. You will need to launch scans from the computer only. You can use Windows Paint or Fax and Scan without needing third party software. Then attach the file to an email either in the email software or by right clicking on the file and choosing Send to Mail Recipient.)

For either use, put the document face down on the glass or face up in the ADF.

If you use a directly connected computer, you need to set the destination for the Scan to E-mail in the Control Center (section 4-4 in the Software User's Guide). Open this program and make sure the correct machine is in the drop-down menu. This program needs to be running to hear the buttons being pressed. Click on E-mail to set which program will get the scanned document as an attachment for your e-mail. You can also set the resolution and type of attachment. If you do not want to use available file formats, you will need to scan in PaperPort (or other software) and then use that to attach the file to the e-mail. Then click Scan to launch the scan from the unit. Hit Set when ready to send.

If you have the unit set up on the network, then you can enter the LAN setup in the Front Panel (or a browser). Hit Menu 6 (and then the appropriate number for the next feature), such as TCP/IP, DHCP or Static IP (these are under 1), SMTP, POP3, Mail Address (Menu 6 2). Setup the Scan to email with Menu 6 7 1 for color and Menu 6 7 2 for black and white.

This automatically sends the item to the email server or PDF as either a PDF or JPEG. Then you need register the PC that will get the file to the unit, if you use scan to email (PC). (Your version of Windows will matter for exactly where the information is: Control Panel > Scanners and Cameras or Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Scanners and Cameras.) Right click on the icon for the unit and select Properties to see the Network Properties box. Go through all of this set up including the Scan To Button. Then the Control Center will launch the e-mail program when it "hears" you press Scan, select Scan to Email, press Set, then choose PC and press Set again. (or select the destination PC which has e-mail access and press Set again). Scanning will start.

If you have set the POP3 and SMTP servers and the unit can directly access them, then you can scan to e-mail and enter the recipient address. Press Scan, select Scan to Email, press Set, choose Email Server and Press Set again. Adjust the scan quality as desired pressing Set at each step. Once you go through all of the layers, the LCD screen will prompt you for the recipient's email address. Then press Start.

I hope this helps.

You are using HP PSC 1610 and There is an easy option available for you to scan documents/pictures directly to Email since you are using Outlook.

for this, you will find need to check if HP Solution Center is installed in your pc ? if not, you need to install it to make things easier for you.

If you have not installed the complete software for your printer, you will not find HP Solution Center in your PC.

Download the Software from this link :
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4062&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=390315#N845

There is also a printing patch available incase you have upgraded your PC from Vista to Win 7

After you have installed the S/w, check for HP Solution Center on the Desktop.

Click on Scan Document and Click on DOCUMENT to EMAIL option and click Scan, The Scanned document will automatically get scanned and Attached to Blank Email.

How do i send a scan to someone else's email address-it automatically comes to my email address

In order to resolve the issue you have to configer the mail on your computer if you are using Windows Vista you have to configer the Windows Mail, if you are using XP then you have to configer either Outlook express or Microsoft Outlook. FOR VISTA OPERATION SYSTEM ================================== Step 1: Configure Windows Mail. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/00e419ef-fee2-472c-ad02-b14331571a521033.mspx OR http://www.apluskb.com/scripts/How_do_I_configure_Windows_answer3578.html Note: Clicking the link may give an error indicating it is invalid. If this occurs, copy the portion of the address on the remaining line(s) and paste it at the end of the address showing in your browser until the complete address. Step 2: Go to IE>Tools>Options>Programs>Email> Select Windows Mail Step 2: Set Windows Mail as the default e-mail program Open Windows Mail by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Mail. Click the Tools menu, and then click Options. Click Make Default next to This application is NOT the default Mail handler. If the Make Default button is not available, then Windows Mail is already set as your default e mail program. Step 3: Populating E-mail program as scan to destination Open HP solution center. Click on Settings. Go to E-mail Settings. In the E-mail settings box, select the e-mail program to Windows mail and click apply. Step 4: Change the Setting ?Scan to? in Solution Center Open HP Solution Center, if it is not already open: Windows VISTA: Click Windows Icon, click All Programs, point to HP, and then click HP Solution Center. HP Solution Center opens in a new window. In HP Solution Center, click Settings, and then click Scan to...Setup. The Front Panel Destination List Setup window opens. From the Available Scan Destination list, click the program you want to be the scanning destination, and then click the Add button. The program moves to the Front Panel Destination list. Note: You can also move the program to the top of the Front Panel Destination to scan to that destination automatically. If you do not want to change any other settings, click OK to close the Front Panel Destination List Setup window. 5. Check the functionality.
