Last fall this mower would stop at irregular intevals , sometimes after 5 minutes , sometimes not at all during the job . When it stopped it would turn over but would not start . Fifteen minutes or so later it would start . Had it running once during the winter just to charge the battery but now it again turns over but will not start .
I believe I checked it once last fall during the non starting period and found no spark at the spark plug .
You probably need to replace the Ignition Module Armature Magneto Coil if it has become rusted and cracked anywhere on it it will not work properly, when the engine is turned this produces the spark,
Try this, follow the positive battery to the part it's attached to,that's what is bad, remove it and take to Lowe's,they have one and it's not expensive.

What method are you jump starting? Are you putting clamps from jump battery on the posts of the battery or grounding the jump battery and then touching the + cable to the starter terminal?

It is true, it could be the stator, alternator, which is located under the flywheel, but it could also be the voltage regulator

pull the flywheel and check if the key(latter models the flywheel itself will need replaced if stripped)is damaged. This is a possibility.

I have a Scotts _ John Deere law mower tractor model S2048-S2554 Serial number 020-001, the engine runs but sounds like it is going to die or it needs air --- it runs unnevenly

This sounds too easy of a solution but I had a like ptroblem with my Craftsman. I loosed the gas cap a bit and the rough running and stalling stopped. he vent on the gas cap that contains a turn over interrupt valve was plugged causing the gas not to flow. I took the cap apart and cleaned out the vent hole though cleaning the holewith a paper clip would have worked as well. Anyway..it fixed my problem. I think my dirty hands of deris deposited the matera in the vent hole when filling with gas.

Hello opa_one:
>>Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine and the Mower Model Numbers, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Engine Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. The Mower Model Numbers are Usually Located Under the Seat on a Sticker on the Body of the Mower.
>>From your Description it Sounds like a Bad Ign Module or Ign Coil (depends on the model).

There is probably a kill switch under the seat -- it controls a solenoid which controls the fuel flow -- when the switch is open ther is no fuel flow. If noone is in the seat or the switch is acting up, this could be the problem. Is there such a switch?
