The machine is on but when I place paper into the machine for shredding the anti jam light comes on and the machine does not run. What needs to be done to get it to work?

shredders have a small tag next to the cutter wheels that move when you insert paper to shred. This tag is easily jammed or damaged during operation. It is normally about the middle and will be positioned between two blades. If this is not moving when paper is inserted it will not switch the machine on. It is the same switch that wwhen jammed by paper will not switch off the machine after paper has been shredded.
Try running the machine in reverse and putting some shredder oil onto the cutting blades to loosen things up. Then try running the machine in the forward direction but hold the paper in the eyes but dont let it go into the shredding blades...see if it runs forward.!
If it will do this then slowly try paper 1 sheet at a time..but put some shredder oil onto the sheets of paper you are shredding.
If the overload light still comes on without even letting you shred 1 sheet of paper then you likely have another problem...maybe the motor or pcb..you can contact Royal at 1-800-524-0799 for parts assistance.
As a test try shredding into a small box or even the cabinet itself with the bag holder and bag removed. Just to see if these are causing the problem.
The bag Full switch is activated by an arm which is pushed up by the pressure of the shredded paper in the bag as it fills.
When a sheet of paper is shredded, after the trail end of the paper goes past the "eyes" the machine should still continue to run on for a few seconds to drive the shredded paper out.
This is carriage jam.First, make sure there is no paper jam anywhere in the machine.. look inside, rear, where the paper tray (output) is, etc to see if you find any shreds or torn paper that may have gotten stuck and you didn't see.Look carefully in the zone of Purge unit, using flashlight in the right side on printer. If this not help your printer need service.
paper feed sensor is dirty, jammed or broken depending on what kind of sensor your unit has. I work with Fellowes machines but sounds like an issue I have dealt with on our machines. You should contact manufacturer for more detailed info on how to clean or unjam sensors.
Your cutters have spread apart this could be caused by overloading machine to many times or something may have cracked internally that held them in place.
