When we close the door the motor keeps running.

We have to leave the door open or the unit unplugged because when we close the door the motor keeps running and the light stays on. Even after we have cooked something the timer will go off and the fan motor continues to run. It doesn't keep cooking. Any ideas

I also have a Samsung SMH7178STD 1100 Watts Microwave Oven on which the light and fan continue to run after the timer shuts off.

Door will not stay closed so microwave will not run. Can run if I stand there and press it fully closed.

This just started happening on my Kenmore microwave because the door latch broke off.

Do I keep the oven door closed when grilling. The manual says keep the door closed when grilling ( not even in mini grilling mode). Is that a typo error that should say open?

It is your oven, you can do with anything you choose. I would leave the door closed as per the instructions. However you decide. I doubt that is a typo. You can leave it open and see how hot your kitchen gets, or leave it closed and contain the heat.

Microwave runs/ is on just by opening the door....turns of when the door is closed

Unplug this machine NOW. If It it runs with the door open, you stand the chance of encountering the microwave radiation. Contact a repair service technician, or replace the unit.

Troubleshooting- microwave turntable and fan run constantly when door closed, door switches test good, timer can be set and oven runs otherwise; need amana microwave ACM1580AS wiring diagram

I'd look for a defective relay or shorted triac on the control panel circuit board. Either could cause this problem.

Kenmore 401.80083700 won't turn off

It is one of two things, a defective door switch, or the keypad control board has failed.

Active Vent opens and closes continuously while unit is idle

I had GE look at the problem today (my microwave is less than a year old and under warranty). He replaced the cam louver and that seems to have fixed the problem. This is a small motor accessible by removing three screws and the active vent door. The whole visit was less than 15 minutes.<!-- from fixya rte -->

My Dacor DMT2420 fan, light and turtable motor run continuously when the door is open. I have unplugged the unit to reset it with no help, another on-line forum expert suggested checking the door switches...

If the cooling fan, light and turntable run continuously when the door is open, but not when it is closed, your secondary interlock (bottom door switch) is shorted (always on).

Even if it's shorted, the actuator button (usually red) will still move up and down when you open and close the door.

It will need a new door switch.

See the service manual here. See our file on door switches here.

Display screen shows an F-6 and it quit working

F6 usually means that the cook relay is stuck on the control board.

So it probably is running whenever the door is closed. This can be dangerous, and can cause a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.
