FREEZER NOT FREEZING CONTENTS

My two new Danby freezers, that are in my unheated garage year round, don't maintain proper freezer temperatures The compartment temperature appears to follow the ambient temperature when the ambient temperature is 0C (32F) and lower. The Danby on-line support states that it's designed that way??? I have an older unit (not a Danby) that works fine outside. Why doesn't the Danby work?

Your garage tempeture is keeping you freezers from getting the unit cold. the new units are lighter because the metal and insulation are thinner which inturn causes extreme outside temps to affect the the inside cooling. the extreme outside temps if below 45 will cause the inside thermostat to read that temp. get your garages up to 45 to 65 for the best operation.

Freezer in unheated/unairconditioned garage it stays cold in winter time but it is not freezing when the temperature is hot in the garage

The first thing is to find out if there is a fan that runs next to the compressor. If not then in the summer the machine is overheating and passing the heat up to the machine itself thawing or preventing the freezer from operation properly

The freezer is in my garage and it is about 90 degrees. Sides of freezer are very hot. Is this a problem.

It is not a good idea to put a freezer in an unairconditioned garage. The reason is because freezers are designed to operate in temperatures of a typical home. It's job is to keep the contents below freezing. When it is in unconditioned garage, it has to work harder in the summer to maintain that temperature. So it will get very hot in these conditions and will use a lot of energy to keep your food cold than if it was in an airconditioned space. As working is such a tough environment, don't expect it to last as long as if it was in an airconditioned space. Hope this helps you.

Your problem could be caused by a clogged drainage tube. even though you may have removed the ice it may still have a clog. my suggestion would be to take all of the contents out of your fridge and let it sit unplugged for atleast 24-48 hours with the doors open this will eliminate any left over ice that may be clogging your drain tube. if this dosent help then you may have a defrost heater problem, or possibly a defrost termination switch problem. as for the smell i know that vinegar works well for getting rid of odor. ther eis also a product you can purchase called fridge aid, it is a charcoal based air purifier and should work well.

Whining sound from motor on Frigidaire upright freezer

Hi: It sounds like you bought a frost free freezer as it has a fan. The fan will come on to circulate the air. It will not necessarly run continuosly. The noise is most likely coming from the fan. I sold Frigidaire freezers for years and they are noisy compared to a refridgerator. If you think it is louder than it was when you bought it, I would replace the circulating fan. Also look at the back wall for frost as it could be a bad defrost heater blocking it with ice. Most likely just the fan though. Since it's in a detached garage, and you won't have to put up with the noise inside your house, it could run a while before failing. The fact it's getting cold is a very good sign. Also as you asked 2'nd, a freezer is ok in an unheated garage. Don't put a refrigerator in there. Unless It is a Whirlpoll Gladiator that is designed for such applications. Use www.searspartsdirect.com to find out where the fan is if you feel it is necessary to replace it. Its not a tough job if you are handy. Their shipping is expensive so you might want to buy it locally.

Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.
