Did you calibrate the motors and TRAIN the drives? If not do these first--

During alignment the "alignment" stars may or may NOT be visible in the eyepiece-- CENTER the star. Once you do this with two stars your gotos should be good.

I have a celestron Cosmos 90 GT Wifi telescope and so far haven't been able to use it. I struggle with aligning the telescope to 3 bright stars... if by chance it says its aligned when I choose a star

Aligning a scope requires several things to be correct.
1. You must follow the setup in manual 100%
2. You must pick the correct alignment stars. Most failed alignments are because you aligned on the wrong star. So alignment requires you to learn the names of a few bright stars and be able to spot them in the sky.
3. With many goto scopes there might be a "home position" to start the alignment. For example, tube pointed roughly North, and level. Check your manual for a "home position. Also time, date, and site must be correct.

While trying to do the initial alignment the telescope says slewing to Vega, but when it stops it is nowhere near Vega, Its almost 180 degrees out. some help would be very much appreciated The telescope is...

All GOTO scopes have specific setup procedures, usually:

1. Level the tripod

2. Point the scope NORTH or in the HOME position.

3. Center both alignment stars

etc etc

Read the manual and follow the instructions exactly.

Will not Auto focus is there any thing I can do? I have tried all focus settings and no luck. I can focus a picture by using the Zoom out.

Try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Initialize the Camera.
MENU-->SETUP-->SETUP1-->Initialize.

2.Power reset the Camera.
Remove the battery of the Camera for atleast 1 minute.

This should resolve the issue.

I need 3 reasons for whythese problem occur and 3 suggestions for remdiation: 1-alignment 2- localization targets 3- focusing 4- tracking

1. Failure to follow the manual and do all the initial setup. Time, date, and site, and usually training the motors.

2. I don't understand #2.

3. Focus until the stars are pinpoints of light. If you see donuts with a dark center you are NOT in focus. Practice during the daytime on a distant object using the eyepiece with the largest number written on it. The moon should be your first target at night.

4. Many things, broken gears, failure to train the scope, grease on the clutches, hand controller is set for terrestrial viewing instead of astronomical viewing so tracking is NOT turned on.

I have the Nexstar 8. It will not auto align or manual....

You must set TIME, DATE, and SITE-- probably does not know your actual location. Read the manual and perform all of the setup procedures.

Some of these have a "starting position" again read the manual and make sure you are in the "home" position before you start the alignment. Read my TIP on my profile page about GOTO telescopes, and join the NEXSTAR forum on www.cloudynights.com

Start Align with NexStar 4SE

Did you enter the correct TIME, DATE, and LOCATION? and yes you may have aligned on to the wrong stars -- they need to be "near" the center.

GoTo Problem

Be sure that the telescope is configured for EQ SOUTH mode to tell it is in the southern hemisphere. Once a star alignment is completed NEVER manually move the telescope. Use only the control panel to slew. Everytime the telescope is move by hand, the motors do not know it has been done, and assume it is still pointing at the old direction. Check the manual for setup.
