Press and hold the power button until the display lights up with a symbol of some kind. If that does not work it probably needs charging or a replacement battery or servicing.
My Grand daughters did the same thing. I did a hard reboot and tada.. It was back to working. Here a site (youtube that shows how to do it). Make sure the battery is charged beforhand.
