Garage door doesn't open or close

Once again my wife left this morning and the garage door would not close. It's a Liftmaster 1/2 HP Security Plus chain driven opener. The motor hums but nothing happens. The chain doesn't move or the stocket on top of the motor doesn't move either. Any suggestions?

You should check the gears inside the box, After years , the gears get dry and die, you can by online or from Sears the kit and replace the old gears. I just changed mine...not too difficult :) .

Motor runs but door won't open. checked chain, seems to be ok

Hello,

The problem is not the chain, it is the plastic gear in the unit of the liftmaster Garage Door 1/2 Hp.The plastic gear is not engaging, although it sounds like it is working.

You will have to replace it with a new one, then the liftmaster Garage Door 1/2 Hp will be able to open up once again.

Once you open and remove the old gear, Be sure to thread the screws in all the parts before you install them. Pre-threading them once would really help. Secondly, label the wires on the back of the opener before lowering it to the ladder, so you can put them back in their proper place.

Hope this was helpful.

The garage Remote control was working normally at first then for now reason now it just opens the garage door but doesn't close it. I checked the side sensors they look OK & clear, and I...

It could be the garage door motor that is acting up. Try closing it with the button in the garage. If that's not the case, you may need a different garage door opener.

Chamberlain 102-1499A Opens w/ remote. Will not close w/remote.

If when you try to close the door the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position you have a door sensor problem. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor.

Garage door won't close...when putting in the 4 digit code the door closes about 6-8 inches and then opens up again

COULD BE THE SAFETY EYES OR THE RPM SENSOR.

IF HOLDING DOWN THE WALL BUTTON ALLOWS IT TO CLOSE NORMALLY THEN IT WOULD BE IN THE SAFETY EYES.
IF NOT CHECK TO SEE IF THE RPM SENSOR IS IN THE CORRECT POSITION ON THE MOTOR SHAFT.

Liftmaster 1/2 HP Garage Door opener won't open or close. Has been working fine until I pulled out this morning. The door will move freely if I disengage from opener. Went up ladder to see chain not...

The shaft on these garage door motors are not direct drive systems. You'll have to open up the box to see what the actual problem is. I have had stuff like this happen where a gear just slipped out of place.

Here is a link for a parts supplier. I don't know your model but it looks like most of the Liftmaster worm screw gears and drive gears are plastic so it's possible that one of them has cracked.

My garage door opener doesnt close all the way.

The motor is probably either stalling because the door is too stiff, or you have a beam break detector that is being triggered when the door is halfway down.

Can't close my garage door

If you have a Craftsman/Liftmaster can you push and hold the wall button to make it go all the way down? If you can than photo eyes are your issue. Check and see if they are both lite.
