Songbird Ever since I installed songbird, and addons for it, my media player music list in media player is very messed up. Entire albums listed as unknown artist, almost every single one of them. How do I fix this? Can it be fixed?

  • Anonymous Apr 28, 2013

Okay, thanks for letting me know. Also, I didn't have this problem with my MP3, I had it with the files on my computer. I hadn't synced by MP3 in months, so it was fine. My music files weren't the only thing messed up. Windows Media Player was also screwed up to the point that it wouldn't accept new folders to the library, or accept new, uncorrupted music at all. I had to disable WMP and go through a whole slew of other things to get it fixed. Also, songbird is a media player, I didn't even know there was an illegal music site of the same name.

  • Anonymous Apr 28, 2013

I wasn't very clear in my original post, my mistake. (Sorry.) The problem wasn't with my mp3, it was fine. All of this happened on my laptop.
Most of you were right, about it being the wrong file type. Songbird had changed the format, corrupting them to the point they weren't playable anymore. It messed them up so bad, that I couldn't go under my music folder and edit the titles, or anything else, manually.
Somehow, it also corrupted my Windows Media Player. Or I had two problems at once. Which I can't see happening to this extent. But I'm not a tech guru so I could be wrong.
It wouldn't accept new folders for my library, when I tried it said that ***/*** directory had been moved or some ****. It was supposed to lead to a folder that I've never had on my comp, ever!
Trying to change the files back to their original format, didn't work. I had to delete everything off of my comp, disable WMP, and created the X directory it told me no longer existed (That never existed in the first place.), then enable WMP. That fixed the not being able to add new folders to my library problem. Once it would accept new folders, I went through WMP and deleted the X directory from my library. I've had no trouble from it since.
As for the rest, I just used my mp3 to put my music back on my comp. I lost the music I had bought since the last time I synced but all things considered, it was a huge improvement.
Also, to be clear. I had no idea there was an illegal music download site called songbird. I am talking about a media player, that I downloaded from getsongbird.com. It was recommended to me by a friend. Who has never had these problems.
My files were my own and they were all originally in mp3 format.

Songbird is unauthorized free music download website. Because they arent part of a large music selling company, they are more likely not to have the correct formats set for mp3 players or other music devices. You have to have the right formats to get organization for the songs to match with correct artist and album. Example: If there is a song that has format WMV and the song's album is format WAV,then its gonna confuse your music device, so the music device will put the WMV format song with the wrong WMV format album in its alphabetical order instead of the songs matching album WMV format. So restore your mp3 player and try to use a legalized music download website.

I can't use my itunes account to add or subtract my music, since adding the gogearVibe. had the same set up approx. 5 months ago with a different unit that worked fine. What happened?

You need to use the Philips songbird software to transfer itunes music into your MP3 player. If your player doesn't use Songbird, you need to first convert it into MP3 format under itunes then transfer using windows media player 11 or higher.

Here is how ot import files from itunes to Songbird:
  1. On the computer, launch the Songbird program. Select Tools > Options
  2. On the Songbird toolbar, select the Media Importer tab, then iTunes Import/Export.
  3. Verify your library location and options. Select Import Library.
  4. The software imports the iTunes library into Songbird.
Once this is done, your itunes music will show in Songbird library. You can now transfer it to your GoGear player. Here is how to transfer files from songbird to your MP3 player:
  1. Click "File" in the toolbar and select "Import Media". Choose the folder that stored your media files.
  2. Select the media files that you want to transfer and then Right Click to display a drop list (You can press and hold the Ctrl button on the keyboard to select more than one file).
  3. Select "Add to Device" and "(Your player model)".
Or you can to go to Songbird library and then drag and drop the files to your MP3 player's icon on the Songbird software.

Hope this helps..
