My buttons wont work on my blackberry curve i can scroll but none of the buttons work. i have tried to reset it and back it up on the desktop but the problem still persists. My convience buttons just stopped working. When I go through the options menu and try and click on screen/keyboard it does not do anything. All other options on the options menu will work but this one. Very wierd.

Black screen, all buttons are unresponsive, message indicator LED still flashes. Screen turns on when plugged into the charger or USB but buttons still don't respond and cursor is frozen. I attempted several times to remove the battery and do a hard restart with no success. Finally called Verizon and it appears to be a dead duck but must commend the high quality customer service I get at Verizon when I call. They are sending a new one UPS Next Day Air. Call your carrier if you have the same problem. You can't trouble shoot this issue.

I didn't drop this phone near water but felt the moisture was the issue with hot summer temps. with the 8330 bb, none of the buttons (only trackball worked- no buttons) Leaving it in rice for a day didn't work at all.
On the last resort attempt, believe it or not, the oven trick did!

1. preheated for 200˚F
2. turned off oven
3. took battery out of BB
4. placed on plate
5. left bb for exactly 20mins in closed oven
6. once i took bb out I waited 5 mins and then placed battery and turned on.
7. worked like a charm

wow guys, I must say after two months of battling to get my BB fixed, the heat treatment worked like a charm!!

It got some water damage about two months ago and I had not taken the battery out immediately and the phone died. I then opened it and left it for about a week in that state and after switching it back on the buttons wouldn\'t work. today I read this thread and tried it by putting the phone face down on a heater for about an hour, and it is working! I am so happy

  • jlausen Mar 30, 2011

so, I read this thread and knew that I couldn't do anymore damage to my phone than I had already done. Whats the worst that could happen, I melt it. I had to do it twice - the first 20 minutes only got the K and L keys working - the second time, I put it in for 25 minutes, rebooted and it works like new - I don't know who figured this out, but you saved me a ton of time and frustration - GENIUS - as a side note, I picked it up off the plate after the second go around in the oven and dropped my phone - about two inches from the dogs water bowl.

only had my blackberry for 3 month, it worked in the morning a few hours later i noticed some moist on the screen, but it wasn't wet, it rang but i couldn't answer the cursor was moving a little bit, and i got messages and facebook notifications but couldn't select, it's not been near any water or any liquid, i took my phone to the shop where i bought it and the have send it off . I wish i read all this before i took it to the shop, i got no insurance :( don't understand what happened it was in the kitchen near my tumble dryer...buuhuuu not happy ....

does this not melt your phone? i am scared to try it

  • Anonymous Aug 03, 2012

I have the same exact problem!!! I've tried removing my battery several times, I even uninstalled some apps. It was just a random day when my keypads decided not to function, so I googled it and came across this site. I've read about the oven thingy and gave it a try. Although I'm a little scared to risk my phone, I still believe in you guys. Lol but I really do hope it works :(

1) set your oven to 200 degrees F.
2) turn the oven OFF.
3) Remove the battery from the phone, and place the
phone in the oven (on a plate).
4) Close the oven, and keep the phone inside for at least 3 hours.
This should remove any moisture affecting your keys.
5) Please don't forget that your phone is in the oven :)

I experienced a similar issue today. The weather outside is burning and I was sweating while I had a conversation - the sweat must have been too much for the phone, because only my track-ball worked. I followed the "oven-advice" and it really worked. I had tried leaving it to dry for a few hours, I had used compressed air and everything, but nothing worked. I turned the over on 200 degrees, turned it off when it reached 200 and put my phone on a paper cloth on top of a plate, and "baked" it for about 40 minutes. I let it cool off for 10 minutes, plugged back in my battery and SIM card and it works like nothing happened. Thank you for your help and advice everyone!

So I got a little water on the keys yesterday...took out the battery fast and dried it off then put it back together...it worked then...and forgot about it...about 4 hours later i pick it up and only the trackball work and not the keys....so i tired compress air...that didn't work....read this thread....was pretty worried. Anyways so I simply put my laptop (on) in my backpack bag along with my blackberry (back case off) and basically cooked it overnight with the heat from the laptop. woke up about 5 hours later and the blackberry works just fine now. Might not work for everyone...esp if its not moisture and if it is moisture...then if it didn't fry the circuits. Hope this helps someone.

I have had the exact same issue. What I have read so far is that there is a moisture sensor beneath the track bar or keys and if any moisture gets on those it somehow locks them. Unfortunately I have not yet found a way to fix this. I was trapped in the rain yesterday and my phone was in my pocket that is what happened to mine--It has to be dry now. Another interesting way to remove moisture from a phone is putting it in a bowl of rice.

I had a blackberry curve 8330 with some kind of water damage - NONE of the keys were working or the trackball.. Put the oven on 200F - turned it off - put the phone in for approx. 20 minutes - popped the battery in = PERFECTION! Its crazy, but it REALLY works!

One of my customers had this problem and what she did to fix it was leave the battery out of the phone over night... Seemed to have resolved the problem. Give it a try.

Also, Your return button works just like a scrollball press. Try that and see if that will get you through.

I was freaking out just a minute ago, happened to me, whoever said that there was a wet sensor, or w/e under the key pad was probably right, I put my phone without the battery on top of my space heater and put a hat on top to keep the heat in. Probably for about 30 minutes now it works fine. If you heat up the phone in the over or space heater and it isnt working, u didnt do it long enough.
Thumbs up

Your having a hardware issue. Check your local service & repair location for an internal hardware check. If you have insurance and pass inspection then your device can be replaced without cost. If you don't have insurance, but pass inspection, it will cost you a small minimum amount.

My 8900's buttons randomly stopped working while i was at work today. So i got home and wrapped it up in a black t-shirt and left in the sun for about an hour and the brought it inside turned it on and BOOM! so i figure this confirms almost every solution on this page.

Bad news for me. The oven trick didn't work for my Blackberry curve 8900. This is the second time I have had this fault on my phone. the first occurred when I went to a concert. Afterwards I took my phone from my pocket and then found that none of the batteries worked. Orange replaced the phone as it was in warranty. This time the same problem happened whilst I was having a kick around. Absolutely shocking that a phone can get 'water damage' in these circumstances!

My curve just started the same thing today. Mine has never been wet in the 12 months I owned it.

Instead of sticking it in the oven, I took the battery out and left the back cover off and placed my phone in front of my pc's power supply fan for a couple hours.

The mildly warm air being forced out of the pc and into my phone was just the ticket to "dry out" my non web blackberry :)

The oven thing really works! Mine got damaged cause I took it with me to the grocery store in the pouring rain and first I tried the blowdryer, didn't fix it, then tried putting it on top of organic baking soda with a plastic bag on top but that didn't work. Then I got on here and tried the oven thing, and the first 20 mins it didn't work too well, but I put it in for another 15 minutes and works perfectly.

Hello, i have a bb curve 8520 and im having a bit of a problem.
about 3 weeks ago i was outside in the rain and it was raining really badly, i had my phone out becuase i had a message the screen kept getting wet and so was the keyboard (basically whole phone).
then a few days after it got a little wet the keys was putting loads of letters in when i wasnt presseing anything at all. so i descided it may have been a software error (at the time i had had no idea it may have anything to do with the rain)
so with me thinking it may have ben a software area i got the password wrong 10 times so it wiped the phone, then plugged it in to my pc and put the newest software back on, when i do9ne this none of the keys att all would work and it would only let me scroll still ,so i put an older sotfware on.then still didnt work.
i took it to a phone shop and because i have no insurance they said i will need to pay about 55pound. i dont really have that kjind of money.
then i read through lots of furums and they said try the rice so i did still never worked.then they said try to tumble dryer and the hair dryer tryed both neither worked. after 3 weeks of not having my bb working it getting really anoiying.
please comment on any thing to do.
i dont really wont to put in the oven ro be honest,i have also tryed put it near an eltric fan that gets really hot that didnt work, any ideas please and ideas are welcome .
bassically the problem i have with my bb curve 8520 is that i can only scroll and it wont let me click on anything an none of the keys work at all.
thanks just really want it fixed :(

Does the phone still have a vailed warranty? If so inform the developers and they will send you another. I the warranty has expired unscrew the back and gain access into the keypad, check the circut board for and miss soldurings and if you can't find any put it back together and take it to a repair shop

Have you had any water damage? I guess the phone needs to be opened and you need to look at actual connections on the board especially under the keypad membrane. You can find opening instructions on the 8300 by a google search on many sites

My blackberry is completely frozen and i cant press anything

You phone could just need a simple reset if the problem is based upon the software.
To do that click the link below to download the Blackberry Desktop Manager and the Blackberry Device Software for your Curve and run the app loader to reset your device
