Most common problem is something blocking the venting process, either somewhere in the vent tube itself,,, or somewhere in the venting system inside the dryer, like maybe the blower fan.

My dryer does not shut off and doesn't get hot. It takes almost 5 hours to dry a load of clothing.

Sorry to say but it sounds like the heating element is on its way out... Happened to ours and repair was more than a new dryer so we brought a new one

My lint trap has very little lint.

Older clothes do not produce as much lint as new ones. Also, if your dryer isn't getting as hot as it used to, then you won't get as much lint either. Does it seem to take a bit longer to dry your clothes? Also, check your dryer vent, if the airflow is reduced, the amount of lint that is expelled through the filter will deminish as well. You may have a build up of lint in the vent ducting to the outside that is restricting airflow.

Maytag gas dryer taking too long to dry clothes

Not too familliar with the gas temp either, but you should definitely take your lint filter out and clean it with soap and water. If you use dryer sheets, they can leave a clear film on your filter and it can be just as bad as a filter full of lint. Try this out, if it works, clean your filter periodically with soap and water to remove the chemical buildup.

It takes several auto cycles on regular heat to dry a load of laundry when I think it should only take one. What's wrong?

first, check your exhaust, you have to make sure there is no buildup at all inside it. this is the most common problem to cause this. if lint gets backed up, there is a sensor that shuts down the heating element after only a few seconds. hope this helps
