I own a gateway 500 xl pc and everytime i push the power button in its lights up yellow.I have unplugged the cord from the power supply and got it to turn one time but after i shut down and attempted to turn the comp on the next day the same thing happened got the yellow on the power button and now i cant get it to reset. So I opened the side of the tower to get a better look from what i can see is the board lights up but when i go to push the test button on the power supply nothing happens doesn't even light up.So is the power supply shot?thanks for any help
A LOT of Gateway computers will go into this catatonic state because of a dead battery. The battery is on the motherboard -- it looks like a metal disk about 1" in diamter. Check it or replace it. This applies to laptops too (not the actual laptop battery, the CMOS battery -- a laptop will have one on the motherboard too)
