Downloading Sony Handycam DVD-RW discs to hard drive and burn to standard DVD

Using a Panasonic VDR-D100 DVD camcorder I filled numerous Sony Handycam DVD-RW minidiscs. I no longer have the camera or any accessories; only the discs. I do no remember if I finalized them as it has been several years. I want to convert the recordings to a format I can use to view them on my computer running Windows 7 but it will not read them. Is it correct that I need to "convert" them to "what?" then download them to my computer and then burn them to "standard" DVD discs? How do I do all this? Thanks. I have reviewed many of the posts but not found an answer. James

SOURCE: VDR M50 drivers for Windows Vista Ultimate

plug the camera in via usb so the camera shows up as a removeable drive. if it picks up the camera as a DVD burner instead of drive, install the DVD-RAM drivers (in compatibility mode for XP SP2 w/ administrative privileges if necessary) and browse the contents of the disc - copy and paste the VRO file to your hard drive and rename it as an mpg - should be readable at that point. good luck.

Your computer probably wont read the disc, you may need to upload it. If you don't know how to do that I'd be happy to explain. Hope that helps.

SOURCE: download software to read panasonic VDR-D250 DVD

Software like Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere Pro or Corel VideoStudio should all work. My advise would be to also use a Firewire cable (may involve installing a firewire card) Just using the USB connecting will often if not always loose the audio

Importing Videos to Microsoft Movie Maker

Hi, i have a perfect solution but it costs around £30. Buy Ulead VideoStudio 11 plus. Its excellent, for one thing, it picks up your disk when you put it in and also you can edit it. I had the same problem but since i got this is was fixed!

Camcorder Problem

You need to do formatting on the disc when using it for the first time. Remember, formatting needs to be done by camcorder. If you used the disc before and formatted it on different machine - it won't work.
