my router type is: SMC Barricade N Draft 11n Wirele Router, i have pc connect to the router using cable and other 3 laptops are using wireless connection(but hardly that all 4 computers using the network, normally there are 2). my broadband provider is: imagine.
i suppose if just using the internet explore, the network is ok. but when i open some online game or downloading(normally i use eMule), the network is down. most of the time i need to reboot the router, and then the network comes back, sometimes after maybe 10 or 120 seconds the network just came back itself.
there are some message i copied from the router configuration page: =================================================== Can't find NTP time.

login to your router and go to wifi and check for the mac address of your laptop, if its require to change anything do it according to it. To know the mac address of your laptop go to command prompt and type --> getmac
use the wrt310n router as the router for the internet (where dsl modem is connected) then just connect the ethernet port (not wan port or internet port) of the SMC to the ethernet port of wrt310n
Are you trying to configure the router wirelessly. Connect your computer to the router with a lan cable and then access the router and change its wireless settings. since you cannot change the wireless settings wirelessly as you will get disconnected.
1st you want the phone cord to go from the wall to your modem, from the modem to the router connect using the cat5 cable, from router to pc using cat5 cable. then connect the power cord and turn it on....once connected open the browser and type 192.168.1.1 hit enter. This will prompt for a user name and password...should be either admin/admin or admin/password.
then you have to contact your ISP for proper settings. then your good to go.
just a few things that can be checked, firstly in the routers settings look at the transfer speed of the router(not the connection speed) and see if it's set at 108MBPS, if so your wireless network cards on your pc's may only be able to connect at a maximum speed of 54MBPS, unless you have the latest 108 or 125MBPS g type cards.
Secondly you should be able to check the wireless signal strength by the icon in your task bar or software you use, as if you have thick walls or objects in the line of the signal from router to pc's, the strength drops and can read low and therefore cause you to lose internet connection entirely.
You can also try changing the channel at which the router runs, normally this is channel 2, but trying channel 11, which is the farthest away from appliance interference may give you better results, but both router and network card channel numbers will have to be changed.
thanks for your help.
