Decodeing UPC-A Supplemental 2 or 5 code

I can not find how to get the scanner to read supplemental barcodes like the ones on the back of books. please help.

  • Anonymous Jan 29, 2009

That helps a lot. I think I've been able to program my LS4000i but I still can't get any text to show up. I'm running Win2K and a PS2 setup.

You should have a code book that came with the scanner, the code book allows you to program the scanner's options, the code book takes you step by step through the programming proccess. each option requires you to scan varios barcodes to "set" the various options one of the options will be to set the barcodes you wish to use, this is set to avoid a misread (confusion between barcode standards)

I found this code book (you will have to print it out as you cannot scan barcodes from the screen)

This allows you to program your unit to read & format how you want

Scanner suddenly stopped scanning, red light shines on UPC but nothing happens

Unplug the scanner, then power it on again. If it reads once and then stops, it is a configuration error such as bad cable or wrong settings in register. If it doesn't read straight after power up, try scanning the 'start' barcode in the scanner's programming manual. It should always be able to read this code. If it reads it, you have a setting fault in the scanner and you need to re-program it to read UPC and EAN codes again. If it reads none of the above codes after power up, have it checked by a dealer

Cannot read bar code

If it will not read any bar codes, then it must be repaired. If it only reads selective bar codes, then perhaps the one you are trying to scan may not be of the type it recognizes.

This scanner will read the following codes: LS 1004/LS 1006: UPC/EAN, Code 39 full ASC11, Code 128, Code 93,
Codabar, Interleaved 2 of 5, Discrete 2 of 5; LS 1000: undecoded

My scanner reads only12 numbers not 13 numbers from barcode what h do?

Perhaps you should ask for replacements and ask for a bar code scanner who reads 13 numbers because even how many times you try it over and over again if the function of the scanner is limited in reading 12 number the results will be the same..Hope it can Help you.

You can get a user guide here: http://www.honeywellaidc.com/en-US/Pages/Product.aspx?category=Verification Systems&cat=HSM&pid=QC800

You need to read through it to get to know all the features of the verifier.

I need to strip the last character from the barcode when scanned with a Symbol P370 scanner. Is there a procedure for that?

If the barcode is a UPC-A or UPC-E you would scan the Do Not Transmit UPC-A or UPC-E Check Digit barcode from the P370 Product Reference Guide.

If the barcode is something other than a UPC-A or UPC-E the last character can be stripped using Advanced Data Formatting which would require the use of 123Scan. You can download 123Scan from support.symbol.com.

The P370 is NOT supported by the newer 123Scan2.

I have an IT3800 scanner and use it in a gift shop. My products have "regular" barcodes, those with 5 digits added and ISBN barcodes. My scanner stopped scanning the extra 5 digits. I went to the IT3800...

What you need is to turn on Digit Addenda for the types of barcode you are trying to scan. Here is the user's guide:
http://www.geoti.co.kr/DATA/hhp/IT3800_3900%20Users%20Guide.pdf
Please check page 7-30, where you will find the codes to turn on the supplements for EAN 13 barcodes (those with 13-digit). Also, if you don't want the scanner to insert a space between the main code and the additional digits, you have to turn off addenda separator (page 7-31)
There are similar configuration codes for other symbologies (like UPC A) throughout the manual.

Hope it helps!
best regards!

Hi, i am trying to configure my barcode scanner LS2208 to put a {TAB} in when scanning

There should have been a sheet or book of bar codes that came with your scanner. These codes will allow you to program your scanner to do most anything, including adding a tab. You simply look at the bar codes and read what they do. you simply scan the one that adds a tab and it will forever add the tab unless you re program it.

If you have lost your book/bar code page, you should be able to go to the manufacturer website and download/print a document with the programmable bar codes.

I would like 2 know the model number/name of a barcode reader , also want 2 convert the 12 digit to 13 digit reading

If you want a cheap but reliable scanner try the LS1203 by Motorola (formerly Symbol) with any Symbol scanner to convert a 12 digit UPC into a 13 digit number you scan the UPC-A Enable System Character Country Code from the appropriate Product Reference Guide. The guides can be found at: http://support.symbol.com/support/supportcentral/supportcentral.do?id=m1
