My washer is fine when it is filling with water, but once the wash cycle starts so does this awful loud helicopter like sound. We have tried adjusting the load size as well as shifting the load while in cycle. It seems to be agitating the clothes ok, not as well as it once did, but enough to get them clean. What is wrong with out washer? What can we do to fix it? What would be the price? CAN IT BE FIXED?

If just getting the water out is your main goal, this can be accomplished using a shop vacuum.
Be sure to unplug the power cord before attempting any repair! Another way to drain a machine is to use a bucket. Put the discharge end of the drain hose from the washer into the bucket, making sure the hose end is higher than the level of the water in the washer, and slowly lower the hose and bucket until the water flows into the bucket. Raise the bucket and hose end back up above the level in the machine tub to stop the flow. Repeat until the machine is empty.
Give the machine a try after removing some of the water as you may have tripped a limit switch and the unit may just be overfilled

Sounds like your transmission is going bad. usually they will pop the belt when going out. Probably with a service call and the cost of the transmission, you'd do better heading to sears. Sorry to bear the bad news. Good luck.

I just replaced the trans in my maytag.if the washer is less than 5 years old trans is covered under warranty. but here is the kicker, labor and thrush bearing is not. trans cost is about 300.00 and labor is about the same. a new washer is about 450.00 So if you know someone who can do trans.[like for free] if not buy a new one. Good Luck

probably needs a new belt, water gets on it and makes it squeal

two problems here,
your shaft seal is running on its last leg
the sound is unmistakeable and always described the same...
the water issue, you probably have a trickle leak through the cold water valve
the mixing valve is quite an easy repair, but I would have to say with all honesty, it probably time for a new machine
the hub seal is a tub replacment call
2 hrs of labor if hes good
and the tub runs around 500.00 dollars
sory for the bad news
