My hp Compaq 6100 gives me this message when i power it on: ''SMART CARD AUTHENTICATION no smart card reader found'', and will not boot into windows. i try inter the motherboard setup ... but i can't I can not access anything
I'm only guessing here, but did you set it up for Smart Card Authentication? If so I guess if the card reader hardware fails then so does Authentication unless replaced. Anyway I'm keen to hear the perfect solution for your Laptop problem.

you need to push and hold control, alt, and delete to initialize the start up.
at this time it will ask you for your username and password.

Pl switch the machine off and put 2-3 pounds of pressure with your palm on the keyboard closer to the spacebar.. this will fix it..
it is caused by the weakening of the adhesive of the wires below the keyboard.
Long term option - get the keyboard opened by the an professional and cleaned properly..and fixed back neatly...

Friend, I am wandering if your Compaq 6100 Laptop or nc6000? Laptop is refering to the HP ExpressCard Smart Card Reader if so I suspect it's been removed, though I'm curious, is this Laptop new to you or have you used it before and if so normally up until one day that message popped up. Can you please fill us in on history of use and as to whther you have used the Smart Card Authentication feature of you're laptop. The more info the better, i.e. so as to establish if Hardware problem OR Software. For example if Hardware it can still be a number of things, e.g. NOT there at all a sin removed, 2. loose connection between components, 3 Reader pins damaged and not able to detect esp if it is the HP ExpressCard Smart Card Reader. SO please a lit bit more input so that we can be sure to give you the correct solution, cheers.
