TV Powers on, Sound is oka,y picture starts with Vertical White line fades to black/

When the system Starts, I initially see a 6' wide white Bar up and down the center of the screen with heavy, corse green and red snow on the rest of the screen. I assume the white bar would be the HP Logo being blurred. As soon as the set kicks to the tuner, the sound is on and the picture fades out to black. I have not taken the back off yet but I can hear a buzzing coming from the 3501Q00200A power supply. Where do I start?

SOURCE: BLACK BAR

I had the same problem and HP has been very helpful, try calling this number 877-917-4380 ext. 79 and be firm tell them this needs to be fixed. They are sending my second replacement part and said they will keep sending parts till it works, this tv is almost 3 years old.

Just to update this issue, HP has now agreed to replace my plasma free of charge, they dont know how to fix it and after a couple of tries they gave up and I'll get my new one next Friday. For all of those trying , keep trying and don't give up, don't take no for an answer. Comment posted on Feb 04, 2009Just an Update here, My new plasma arrived on Monday free of charge, no shipping, no money at all, works like it did when new. Call HP with the number listed and let them have a piece of your mind, you will get results.

My LTV-32w6 westinghouse powers on & has sound but displays black screen with very faint colored vertical lines. It shows like this for about 1min before it goes into standby mode & the blue power...

Depends on what is causing it...

Vertical bands of faint black are generally caused by filtering capacitors and can be found in the power supply or the 5 volt supply or even the Video processing circuit...it is not an easy task to identify the source of Video hum bars.....we also call them Jailbars.

Another problem seen is faint black lines caused by the TV set being in 4:3 mode all the time....right at the edge of where the picture ends and the black pillars begin, we see a faint black line that never goes away and is normally seen with a full screen....

That is actually image retention, but it's caused by the crystals that create the picture becoming polarized or ionized over a very long period of time....and it's not easy to DE-Polarize them !

But there are some theories out on how to do that....
Certain people suggest running the TV overnight with an ALL-WHITE picture and some suggest an ALL BLACK PICTURE...and some suggest alternating between both !!

Now, a black picture is easy to make, you just deactivate the Video Mute (blue screen) and set it to an unused Video INPUT overnight....

About the only way to make a white screen is to use the USB port for pictures and take a very bright outdoor shot of a piece of white paper that hopefully is out of focus too....That would create an all-white picture that you can plug into your TV set overnight....

Now if you decide to try this, deactivate any displays on your TV set...all you do is press the display button until the Video and/or USB input numbers disappear....

Next day , set it back to normal TV and see if it's gone or if it's REDUCED....try it again if needed, or try the exact opposite if you see NO RESULTS....

Vertical white line down centre of Soniq PT42SH plasma TV.

One of your "X" buffer boards is defective. In Panasonic plasma tv's they are located at the bootom of the set and connect directly to the plasma diplay panel via a thin ribbon cable. The board you want to replace will be directly in line with the discolored vertival line in the picture. The part number is on the circuit board and usualy starts with "tnp..." or "txp..."

Sony CRT Tv (KV-T29SZ8)

When you see white lines at the top of the screen, it means that the pump-up capacitor next to the vertical output IC is bad and the IC is about to quit. When the output finally quits, you get a black screen with possible dim spots. The vertical output IC and its pump-up cap will have to be replaced, and the little fuse resistors next to the flyback in the + and - supplies to the vertical output IC must be checked too. If you have experience working on TV's then you can do it yourself, but if not then have the set serviced by a tech experienced in Sony sets.
