Some time after being powered on with a signal (cable or player), the screen begins getting vertical line blocks. The screen seems like it has 4 horizontal blocks, and each block begins flickering (well, its either messed up for a few seconds or normal for a few) between the normal image and vertical lines. After several seconds (10-15 usually), the screen stops flickering and just has vertical lines. If the TV is powered off for a few minutes and turned back on, the image is fine for abit. Doesn't seem to have a set time before messing up. This problem did occur several months ago one evening, but I powered it off for about 20 hrs, dusted off the externals and back openings and the problem never came up again this week.

Warranty still alive?
Hope so; the problem could be an expensive one.
The screen appearance is controlled by allowing light from a backlight through by turning pixels off and on.
This switching is done by a matrix that turns on vertical and horizontal pixels of the right shade at the right time to produce the image you see.
One of the control elements for the vertical that controls the transmission of green light from the backlight, has died (no longer switching off and on when told) and these are normally a part of the LCD screen assembly itself and not easily replaceable.
I would be talking to Sharp - this shouldn't happen in 6-7 months of use.
