Lamp replacement procedure is given.
No, the optics are set for the specific size of the screen. A 55 or a 50 would leave you with a smaller picture and thats even if electronically they are the same
Best case scenario is your lamp is failing and will need replacing ($200 - $300). Worst case scenario is the panel is starting to fail, meaning it would not be worth repairing. The set is 14 years old and has probably reached its end of life. You can probably replace it for less than a thousand and not only have HDTV but a digital receiver as well.
Pls check that model number........the problem description does not match that of a 1999 crt proj tv.........I believe yours is a newer lcd projection around 4 or 5 yr old?? Lamp light flashing on any brand is indicative of the lamp not lighting . The lamp is the most likely cause, but the ballast board can cause this as well..................you should see an access door refer to owner book of the correct model and you can replace yourself...........it may cost around $200 and avaiolable at encompass parts .com Hitach distributor
Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement
lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp
assy is expensive. The trick is to just buy the bulb for your
model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the
lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. really
easy. Some models are real bulb hogs though. Look them up
on the net (include the word complaint or repair) before you buy, or
you might be sorry. Many class action lawsuits out there - even
against some of the name brand makers.
