My frriend say he had his fixed some wires in windings had to be soldered .I am a machanic and bought for cheap. The brushes are good ,what should I look for thanks MIKE
If you are getting some power, even if it only 2vac then you may have to flash the excitor circuit. If nothing then take the end cap off the generator and clip your meter to the metal portion of the brush holders or exposed wire from them. Start the generator and see if any voltage is coming from the brushes. Even if there is nothing try flashing the excitor.
To flash the excitor circuit on a coleman ( the generator is built by generac) you need a 12 volt battery.
You quickly apply 12 volts via your 120vac recepticals. NO MORE THAN
ONE OR TWO SECONDS! Then check you ac voltage.
Give this a few attempts and if this does not do it, I would say the winding repair did not work. Buy another generator and use the engine for a go cart or backup engine since this generator is so cheap.
