SOURCE: Standby LED blinks 4 times

Hi there,

4 blinks on a Sony Bravia indicates a backlight/inverter (aka ballast) problem. These ballasts are regrettably only available with an entire LCD panel. :( You may perchance be able to find a parts outfitter online that scraps out TVs and have a used ballast.

Typical backlight problem on an LCD shows up as the screen lighting up for a second or two and going back off. The 4 blinks just confirms your problem.

SOURCE: Standby LED blinks in red continuously KDL-46XBR4

If the Standby light is blinking at the front panel of the TV, it seems that there is an internal malfunction occurred in the TV. I will forward a link to a page where you can get more information and troubleshooting steps for this issue. http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=C399467 Please perform the steps provided on the page. If the issue still persists then service of the TV is required.

SOURCE: Sony KDL-52XBR9 power/standby LED blinking. TV

This is either your LCD backlight, inverter/power board or both. Neither of which are serviceable by the consumer, unless a visual inspection of the power board shows swollen or ruptured capacitors. This you can do yourself and is the most likely problem. Just read the side of the capacitor and go to radio shack, or online to find the right replacement capacitor. When re soldering be sure your negative and positive leads are in the correct holes.

SOURCE: My flat screen tv shuts off and standby led blinks 13 times.

Our $2700 less than 3 year old Sony LCD KDL-40XBR5 did the same thing 2 weeks ago. Sony was anything but helpful. They said to take it to a repair shop or we could send them $550 and they would replace it with a $800 set. Repairman says that it is a panel and the part has been discontinued by Sony. The 46" sets had the same problem and were recalled but not the 40" screen. We stopped on the way home and purchased a 40"

Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.

Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Panasonic plasma tv led blinks 12

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device, in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

Red led lit, but when remote on/foo button is pressed it just blinks. It never turns green indicating the TV is on. Set has no manual on/off switch. I am a retired radar technician, but without...

This LCD is using a power supply number: MLT168A. The common failure is with defective capacitors in the secondary side and you do not need schematics for this repair. Use the picture below as a reference to find the defective capacitors that show signs of bulging. You might also need to replace 2 capacitors under HS4.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

TV won't power on, repeating doulbe red light blink

Question Television is not working, screen is black, blinking red led.
Answer Television is probably malfunctioning due to electrostatic discharge. Try resetting the television by unplugging it from the power outlet for 10 seconds.
  1. Make sure that the power cable on the display and the VGA cable with trailing audio cables are connected correctly (use the originally supplied VGA cable.) between 'MONITOR' of the TV and 'VGA1' of the display.
  2. Make sure that the display is switched on.

Tv wont turn

The blinking red light at the the front of the television is the "Diagnostic STANDBY/TIMER LED".
This little red light will blink 2, 4, or 5 times and then stay off for three-seconds. And blink again for 2, 4, or 5 times. This cycle repeats. The most common diagnostic code is the 4-blink code.

When the red LED blinks 4-times, it means one of two possible causes:
1) +13V is not supplied on the A-board. Or, 2) IC502 is faulty.

It is best to take this television set to a repair facility and ask that the +13V power supply be repaired.
The copper tracks and integrated circuit pads are very thin and delicate on the KV-24FV12 circuit board, and will easily lift off of the circuit board, if the incorrect desoldering tool is used. Unless one has a good quality PACE vacuum desoldering unit, one should not attempt to repair the television.

ILo tv

It looks like the power supply failed on your TV. If the LED is solid red or green, it could be some leaky or dry capacitors but if the LED is blinking, the failure is more complicated to repair.
I service these power supplies. If you need more info you can send me an email to [email protected]
