I use a NEC Dterm 80 phone at my business office. I'm moving my business into my home and having a 2nd telephone line installed. I was hoping I could just plug in my NEC phone at home since on the bottom of the phone ist says for Home or Office. I tried it with a regular phone cable and it didn't work. Any ideas?

Dterm 80 works on several systems, would be helpful if you mention what system you have. Programming lines directly onto a phone is done in system programming, not really something you can do yourself. If your IT person has the programming software, great. Very rare someone on site is tasked with knowing the phone system at that level, because it gets deep quick, and your working on the whole thing, not just one phone.
Several phone vendors post user manuals on-line. Dterm 80 is a phone that works on about 10 NEC phone systems. Find out which system you have; Pro II, Elite, IPK, IPK II, SV8100, 8300, 8500, and so on, then Google your system+user manual+PDF.
The Display can be swapped.... if you can find one.
Otherwise no programming is retained in the telephone. Swapping phones will not loose any data programed to that jack/Extension number
I have the 8 button phone and if you hook up your headset the right way you just have to press the line/feature access key all the way to the right instead of picking up the receiver. Keep the headset on all the time and just press that button to answer or hang up the calls. It works great! ( I have the Dterm80 telephone)
i believe the nec dtp-2dt maybe a phone system phone for offices. you didn't mention if it's for home or office use.a phone system phone will not work in a regular phone jack. it needs to go thru a phone system. also if you buy any 2 line phones, you need 2 lines for both lines to work. you can also have a 2 line phone with only 1 line and order a 2nd line if needed
hope this helps
