Now this is just my opinion but i tried to do the same thing one time and it would not work so I was left with one choice. Do a fresh install, I bought a second hdd and did a fresh install then plugged my original hdd in as a secondary so I could still access my old files.

Could have something to do with the IDE being set to master.. It has been known that sometimes the SATA drive will take over as the master.. Try changing the IDE drive to cable select, and see if that helps.. If not, change the SATA to slave.

If that doesn't work, post your motherboard model# along with your bios name/version.. and we'll go from there.

As a side note: When they are connected the way they are now, does the bios show both drives?

SOURCE: it recognizes the new hard drive as a DVD drive

have you partitioned and formated it ? unless you do that to the drive it will not show up with a drive letter in windows. go into control panel, administrive tools, computer management, disk management - there you should see all your drives and you can partiton, format, assign or reassign drive letters to them. hope this solves your problem.

SOURCE: SEAGATE DRIVER ISSUE

It is a internal hard drive, which connects through IDE cable (the wide one), so you shouldn't be asked for drivers. If in any case you can't see this drive in your "My Computer" ("Computer" on Vista) it's probably because you have connected it wrong. Notice that the end of the IDE cable must be connected tou your main hard drive (where OS is instaled). If Seagate ST340015A is your main hard drive, than the end of the cable should be connected to it. If not, than on the same cable, about in the middle is another connection, you should use that one.

SOURCE: my computer does not see my external hard dive

Go to this webpage (Seagate) http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/ and choose from the SeaTools and FreeAgent Drivers that are appropriate for your OS and particular model. Formatting the harddrive should not have caused this problem of not being connected, but it is possible there was a piece of software that communicated with the computer that was removed via the format.

My Seagate freeagent 320GB won't show up on my computer. It was working fine yesterday when I backed up some important folders, then later on that day, I went to add something to it, and it told me...

Get the Testdisk app and see if it can identify the issue. You can repair the boot sector or create a new one with th is app. If it shows up in the drive list you have a good chance of getting the drive back.

How to partion seagate Free Agent Pro in Windows XP

First make sure that you have a bootable Windows Vista installation DVD, as you will be unable to use your computer if you don’t. Next, download the GParted Live CD and burn it to cd.
Boot off the GParted cd, and you will see your hard drives in the drop-down list. The first drive is typically your boot drive, but you can check the Flags column to make sure.

Next you’ll need to right-click on the partition and choose Resize/Move from the menu.

Now you can either use the New Size textbox, or just click and drag the partition to make it smaller (or bigger). When you are done, click the Resize/Move button. This doesn’t immediately apply the changes, though. You can make other changes to your partitions and then when you are finished click the Apply button.Depending on the amount of data and the speed of your computer, it can take quite a while to resize the partitions. On my computer it took more than 30 minutes.

Once it’s done, quit, remove the live cd and then reboot your computer. Unless you are very lucky, you’ll be greeted with this horrible error message saying “Windows Failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.”
Hope this helps!

Want to add 2nd hard drive to vista64bit hombuilt.

In one system that I have seen this one, we had loaded optimized defaults. One item you could look at are the jumpers and the SATA ports if the connections are correct.

Dell Vostro 200 desktop with Windows XP is not able to handle two

Vista doesn't generally like to be installed on a hard drive that big. Well, Windows, in general doesn't.

And, from the sounds of it, you didn't install Windows on your new primary 1.5TB drive, you just copied it from the 500GB drive, which won't work.

Here's what you should to, to solve this:
1) Swap out your 1.5TB drive with the 500GB drive again.
2) Swap out your secondard 1.5TB drive, with the new one.
3) Create a partition of 120GB or less on that drive
4) Install Windows on the new partition.
5) Put the other 1.5TB drive back in, as secondary.

Once that's done, you can swap out the new 1.5TB drive with your Windows partition on it, in place of the 500GB drive.

When you boot, Windows may ask you to select which operating system you want, just select Windows Vista, and you should be good to go.

I had a similar issue a few years ago, when I tried to install Windows on a 1TB drive, and couldn't get it to work. Once I partitioned a smaller space, it worked like magic.

Removed partitions. Now 'My Computer' doesn't see HDD.

You may want to use a program called Partition Magic to repartition your hard drive. You can try using the Disk Management Service built in to Windows 2000, XP, and Vista. This is available in "Computer Management" in Administrative Tools in the Control Panel.

Please note that after removing a partition, you need to create a new one then format it before the operating system can read it.

Hope this helps!

How to do fix a seagate hard drive if you cant reboot your hard drive?

Boot to the XP CD (Or Vista DVD) and attempt a repair of the OS. If that fails, then try a clean installation of the OS with a full format

New Seagate 250gb with no software

1) I assume that by "software" you mean drivers??

This link is to the seagate downloads page:
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/

2) If by "software" you mean the contents of the drive, then my suggestion is that your friend may have moved the files off of it onto his Mac instead of copying them, and that you should ask him to move them back.

3) What operating system are you using ("Windows XP", "Vista")? Does your computer detect the drive (beep when you plug it in)? Have you tried this drive on another computer, other than your friend's? Does it still work on your friend's?

I can't help much without more info, sorry.
