I'm currently having the exact same issue. I'm checking several things and have checked several already. I'm leaning currently towards this being a motherboard issue, but I will post here if I find out for sure.

Hi jr_51,

There could be many things that could stop the board from turning on, Determining if it works is like detective work. What I do, is take everything off the board to start. Then add the minimum to start a board to see if it will start. That's one drive (cd or otherwise) the CPU, and one bank of memory. (that's not a required eliminate, but it helps avoid beep codes) Also, make sure you have your pin's set on the board absolutely correct, or that could be your problem to begin with. Now, you should get the power supply on, and the cpu. If those don't power up, it's then either one of the five elements. The CPU, Power supply, Ram, Drive, or the motherboard. The next step is to replace each one of the first four to see if you get any change. If no change, then I usually get another board that I can test the first four, and make sure that they work. After that, then I say you have a DOA Board

Good Luck and don't forget to leave a rating.

Thanks
Mark

I have a Gateway w340ua the other day i shut it down properly and todat it will not boot up at all nothing on screen but the dvd rom light comes on ?

Attach a external monitor and reboot -- if it comes up then the LCD on the laptop may be broken / damaged. This is where I would start.

let me know what happens after that.

if still no picture it could mean a bad video card and might need replaced.

Looks like a bad video card/chip or motherboard.

Experts only!!!
Try this:
  1. Power OFF the computer
  2. Remove the battery
  3. Unplug AC
  4. Remove the RAM
  5. Remove the CMOS battery
  6. Press and hold Power ON button for 30 secs. at least
  7. Put back the RAM and the CMOS battery
  8. Put back the battery
  9. Plug back AC
  10. Power ON as normal

If that does not help, remove the hard drive and just boot into BIOS setup.

powersource is good.motherboard might be the problem.harddrive can be tested by putting it in
another computer and see if it boot up.to test the mother board unhook the cd drives and harddrive.turn
on the computer and see if the gateway logo comes on.if it still does the the samething with everything unhooked
then it might be the bios.you might have to flash the bios and reinstall it.to do this i recommend you take it to a
shop.if the comp runs with everything still unpluged and stops then you know that you have a wrong
setting on the harddrive or cd drive.if you got two of anything make sure that you have a slave or master.if you nned me to
write a guide email me at [email protected] or if you got anymore questions.

Gateway 200arc motherboard problem

If there are two wires running from the power button on your case to the motherboard, take them off and try jumpering those two terminals with a jumper or something that will make contact for just a second and them take back off. Your power button may have fried along with the power supply.

I have a gateway 835gm desk top

there are a number of things that could be wrong here, firstly reset the cmos on the motherboard, if you cannot find the cmos jumper then remove the battery for 10 minutes (make sure the power cord is removed from the back) press the on/off button a couple of times, this will drain any remaining power from the board and properly reset the cmos, while the battery is out remove the memory, clean the contacts and repace, put the battery back in and connect power, if the machine turns on, job done, if not then it could be something far more serious, check the power suppy if could be faulty, the processor may have blown or the motherboard itself may have blown, the only way to check all the components at once is to get a working motherboard which supports your processor type, the same model would be an advantage

Gateway GX7022E won't boot.

Well, it could be any component going bad, in this order: power supply, video card, memory, motherboard. You can try known working video, power and memory if you'd like, but it is probably the motherboard in this particular case. If you look at the capacitors on the mobo, you'll probably find that at least some of them are bulging at the top and/or leaking. the only thing to do if this is the case is to try and replace the bad caps - but this is VERY difficult, even for an expert.
